What devices are supported by Smart Switch Mobile?

What do I need before using the Smart Switch Mobile app?

What you will need is determined by your old device type.

iOS users

  • Transfer using iCloud: Before running the Smart Switch Mobile app, you will need your Apple® iCloud ID and password, as well as access to your iOS device (preferred but may not be required depending on whether it has been backed up recently).

  • Transfer using Micro USB to USB adapter: You must have a Micro USB to USB adapter and standard iOS USB cable.

   

The Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app must be installed on the new device.

Android users

The Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app must be installed on both the old and new devices.

   

Does my old content get overwritten by Smart Switch Mobile?

No, your data is not overwritten. Existing content remains when the content is added to your new Galaxy device.

   

How does Smart Switch Mobile handle my old apps?

First, Smart Switch Mobile scans all the applications previously downloaded/purchased on your iOS device or Android device. Then, Smart Switch Mobile provides two lists to the user. The matching list provides a list of apps for which Google Play store has the same app, made for Android. If an exact match is not available, the second list will provide recommendations for substitute apps. For example, Find My iPhone is available only in the Apple store. Smart Switch Mobile will recommend Android apps such as Find My Phone.   

   

Why don't I see a match or recommendation for a particular app?

If no match or recommendation is available for a particular app, it means that no Android match or recommendation could be found for the app on the old device.

   

Is App Match available outside of the United States?

No, the Smart Switch Mobile application and recommendation match tool is currently available only in the United States.

   

I don't want to transfer a certain type of content. What do I do?

On the Smart Switch Mobile Basic Information screen, simply tap the name of the content type to deselect it from the transfer.

   

Does Smart Switch Mobile need to be installed on both devices or only the new one?

For Android devices, Smart Switch should be installed on both the receiving and transferring devices. For iOS devices, the app only needs to be installed on the new device.

   

Do I need to keep Smart Switch Mobile open while transferring content?

No, once the transfer is initiated, you can close Smart Switch and perform other tasks. The Notification Panel will display the transfer progress as it happens in the background.

   

Can I transfer the contents from my old phone using a microSD™ card?

You can transfer the contents of the old phone to a microSD card, then restore the contents on your new phone.

Galaxy S 6 and Galaxy S 6 edge users only: These devices do not support a microSD card. When transferring content from a device with a microSD card, Smart Switch automatically detects SD card content in the old device, and the content will appear in the transfer list under the heading "Content in SD Card." The SD card content is transferred to the Galaxy S 6 or Galaxy S 6 edge in the same manner as all the other content.
