Changing Security Features on Your Galaxy S8 & S8+

Samsung GalaxyS8 Adjust Security Features

Your device offers various security features to keep your device and data secure from others.

The available screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider and software version.

Samsung Pass

Use Samsung Pass to access your favorite services with biometric data. You must sign into your Samsung account to use Samsung Pass.

Setting up Samsung Pass

  1. Navigate to Apps > Settings.

  2. Touch Search, then search for and select Samsung Pass.

  3. To review the following information on Samsung pass, touch NEXT. For this example, touch SKIP.

  4. Enter your Samsung account password, and then touch CONFIRM.

  5. To agree to the following, select I have read and agree to all of the above, and then touch NEXT.

  6. Samsung Pass requires biometric authentication. Select the desired biometric authentication and then follow the instructions.

  7. After creating a biometric authentication, sign into Samsung Pass using the biometric.

  8. Touch NEXT to complete setting up Samsung Pass and start using its features.

   

Using Samsung Pass

  1. Using Samsung Internet, navigate to your favorite website where you need to sign into your account.

  2. After signing into your account, Samsung Pass will ask if you want to save the account information.

  3. To save your account information and sign in by using your biometrics, select Sign in using biometrics via Samsung Pass and then touch REMEMBER.

  4. Next time you sign into the website, all you have to do is scan your biometrics instead of filling in the account information.

Unknown Sources

Allows your device install apps from sources other than the Play Store or Galaxy Apps.

  1. Navigate to Apps > Settings.

  2. Touch Search, then search for and select Unknown sources.

  3. To activate the function, touch the slider.

  4. Review the information on Unknown sources and then touch OK.

Secure Folder

Lock your private content and apps to enhance security. You must sign into your Samsung account in order to use Secure Folder. You must also set a secure lock for your device.

Setting up Secure Folder

  1. Navigate to Apps > Settings.

  2. Touch Search, then search for and select Secure Folder.

  3. To review the following information about Secure Folder, touch NEXT. For this example, touch SKIP.

  4. To sign into your Samsung acount, touch CONFIRM.

  5. Choose a lock type to protect your apps and private files and then touch NEXT.

  6. Follow the promts to set your lock.

  7. After setting a lock, your Secure Folder will be created.

    

Using Secure Folder

  1. Navigate to Apps > Samsung Folder.

    Secure Folder may be located in Apps > Samsung folder.

  2. Enter your credentials and then touch OK.

  3. Use the following options to secure your private content:

    • Lock: Locks your Secure Folder.

    • Add apps: Add the desired apps to Secure Folder.

    • Add files: Add the desired files to Secure Folder.

    • Edit Apps: Uninstall the desired app from Secure Folder or Add the desired apps to a Home screen.

Secure Startup

Protects your device by using a screen lock when the device is turned on. For this example, the device has a PIN lock screen set up.

Your device must have a screen lock set up to enable this function.

  1. Navigate to Apps > Settings.

  2. Touch Search, then search for and select Secure startup.

  3. To set the secure startup, choose Require PIN when device turns on and then touch OK.

    This screen will vary depending on the type of lock screen you have set up.

  4. Enter your PIN and then touch NEXT to complete the set up.

Encrypt SD Card

Protect the data on your microSD card by encrypting it.

  1. Navigate to Apps > Settings.

  2. Touch Search, then search for and select Encrypt SD card.

  3. Review the information on encrypting your microSD card and then touch ENCRYPT SD CARD.

    If you have a screen lock set up, you will need to enter your credentials.
