Compatible devices in SmartThings

Compatibile Devices in SmartThings

So you have the awesome SmartThings app on your phone, but where do you even begin? You should start by connecting all your compatible devices and appliances like your TV, refrigerator, sensors, and even light bulbs. Once you’re connected, you can monitor, control, and automate devices around your house using the SmartThings app.

Find compatible devices

Not sure whether your new TV is supported? You can check the SmartThings website to see if it's a compatible device. And don't worry, SmartThings supports many third-party smart devices.

You can also check directly in the app itself. Navigate to and open SmartThings, and then tap Menu (the three horizontal lines). Tap Supported devices, and then use the different categories to find your desired device. You can also tap More compatible devices at the bottom of the screen.

Or, you can tap the Search icon in the upper right-hand corner, and then search for the product's name. You can even search by the model number to be extra sure that it's compatible.

Use different connection methods

Most smart appliances have a special mode called Access Point (AP). This mode is like a pairing mode, where connections are made between two wireless devices.

First, make sure the device is compatible with SmartThings. Then, if you are unsure how to enable AP on your device, follow the instructions in the product's user manual; the steps may vary between devices. Once the device is in AP mode, the SmartThings app should automatically discover the device. However, if your device does not appear, you can add your device manually.

To manually add a device, open SmartThings, and then tap Add (the plus sign). Tap Device, and then tap By device type for Samsung products, or By brand to select another device.
