Error message when registering SmartThings Tracker

The SmartThings Tracker uses GPS and LTE technology; both need a wireless service plan to work with your phone. When you buy a tracker, the first year is free! If there's an issue with your network connection when connecting the tracker to SmartThings, registration time may take longer or fail to download the wireless service.

Download Failure Message

If you receive a "Download Failure" message, clear the storage data for the SmartThings app. However, you will be signed out of SmartThings and your Samsung Account will be required to sign into the app again.

To clear the SmartThings app data:

  1. From your phone, navigate to and touch Settings.
  2. Touch Apps, and then swipe to and touch SmartThings.
  3. Touch Storage, and then touch CLEAR DATA > OK. (Clearing the app data will sign you out of the SmartThings app.)
  4. Navigate back to and open the SmartThings app. If prompted, sign into your Samsung Account. Then, connect the tracker.

Waiting for Registration Message

  • The registration time will vary based on the tracker's network connect. If the "Waiting for Registration" message appears on the tracker card in the SmartThings app, move to an area where the wireless service coverage is stronger. For example, if you're indoors, move outside.
  • If the tracker was previously registered by someone else, have them to delete the tracker from the SmartThings app using their Samsung Account. Once they have deleted the tracker from their account, it may be necessary for you to delete and re-add the tracker in SmartThings to complete the registration.
