Why your Samsung Galaxy device may appear to be charging slowly or not charging at all
If your Galaxy device appears to be not charging properly or charges slowly, the issue may be caused by high device temperature, charging accessories, charging settings, or debris inside the charging port. Charging speed may also decrease when using non-genuine chargers or when battery protection features are enabled.
Note:
- If the device temperature becomes too high, charging may stop temporarily or charging speed may decrease. Wait for the device to cool down before charging again.
- Menu names, settings, and screen layouts may vary depending on the model and software version.
Using non-genuine or damaged charging accessories may cause slow charging, charging interruptions, or charging failure.
Use Samsung genuine chargers and cables
Even if chargers and cables look similar, charging quality and performance may vary.
- For optimised charging performance and device safety, Samsung recommends using genuine Samsung chargers and charging cables designed for your Galaxy device.
Note: Using non-genuine accessories may damage the device or cause charging issues.
Check the charger connection
If the charger is not connected properly, the device may not charge normally.
- Disconnect the charger from the Galaxy device and reconnect the charging cable securely to the charging port.
Check for charger or cable damage
A damaged charger or charging cable may prevent normal charging.
- Try charging the device using another genuine Samsung charger and cable.
- If charging still does not work, visit a Samsung service centre for hardware inspection.
Note: Damage caused by user misuse or chargers outside the warranty period may require purchasing a new charger.
Dust or foreign material inside the charging port is one of the most common causes of charging issues. If dust, lint, or debris builds up inside the charging port, the charging cable may not connect properly to the charging terminals.
Step 1. Turn off the Galaxy device > Use a flashlight to inspect the charging port.
Step 2. If dust or debris is visible, gently blow air into the charging port to remove it.
If your Galaxy device supports fast charging, make sure fast charging is enabled in Settings.
Step 1. Open Settings > Tap Battery.
Step 2. Tap Charging settings.
Step 3. Turn on Fast charging and Fast wireless charging.
Note:
- Starting from the Galaxy S23 series, Fast charging and Super fast charging settings are combined into one Fast charging setting.
- Fast charging may not work when connected to a PC or standard USB device.
If Battery protection is enabled, charging may stop early or the maximum charging level may be limited depending on the selected option.
Step 1. Open Settings > Tap Battery.
Step 2. Tap Battery protection.
Step 3. Select a different option or turn off Battery protection.
If moisture is detected in the charging port, charging may stop to help protect the device from damage.
Note: Even on water-resistant Galaxy devices, the charging port must be completely dry before charging.
Step 1. Check for moisture detection notifications.
Step 2. Shake the device gently to remove moisture from the charging port > Wipe the device with a soft, clean cloth.
Step 3. Dry the device in a well-ventilated area using cool air.
Note: Continued charging issues or significantly reduced battery usage time may indicate a hardware problem. Visit a Samsung service centre for inspection if the issue persists.
