Power saving mode can help your Samsung Galaxy last longer throughout the day by reducing background activity and limiting certain features when needed. You can also use additional battery and performance settings, such as sleeping apps and Light performance mode, to help manage power usage based on how you use your device.

Note: The information provided applies to devices sold in Canada. Screens and settings may vary on mobile devices sold in other countries.

If your Samsung Galaxy battery is running low, Power saving mode is one of the quickest ways to help extend battery life by limiting certain features and reducing background activity.

If you need additional ways to help your Samsung Galaxy last longer throughout the day, you can also try the following battery and performance features:

  • Maximum power saving mode: Further limits apps and features to help your Samsung Galaxy last even longer when the battery is very low.
  • Put unused apps to sleep: Limits background activity for apps you do not use often to help reduce unnecessary power usage.
  • Light performance mode: Prioritizes battery efficiency and cooling over processing speed during everyday use.
  • Device care: Helps optimize your Samsung Galaxy by checking battery, storage, and background apps.

You can turn on Power saving mode at any time to help your Samsung Galaxy last longer throughout the day.

Step 1. Open the Settings menu. Then, scroll through the options and tap Battery.

Step 2. Tap Power saving.

Step 3. Tap the switch next to Power saving to enable the feature.

Note: Follow the same steps to turn off Power saving mode.

Maximum power saving mode can help your Samsung Galaxy last even longer than regular Power saving mode by applying additional restrictions to apps and features. It will also simplify the Home screen layout and limit access to certain apps to help reduce power usage as much as possible.

Step 1. Open the Settings menu. Then, scroll through the options and tap Battery.

Step 2. Tap Power saving.

Step 3. Scroll through the options and tap the switch next to Limit apps and Home screen.

Step 4. Tap the switch under Power saving at the top of the screen to turn on Maximum power saving mode.

Step 5. The interface is simplified and only selected apps remain available. You can add additional apps by tapping the Plus icon and selecting the desired apps.

Step 6. Tap More options (the three vertical dots at the top right of the screen) and then tap Turn off Power saving to return to the standard Home screen layout.

Note: Some apps and features may not be available while Maximum power saving mode is turned on.

Putting apps to sleep can help reduce unnecessary power usage by limiting background activity for apps you do not use often. This feature can help your Samsung Galaxy last longer throughout the day without affecting the apps you use regularly.

Step 3. Tap the switch next to Put unused apps to sleep to turn it on.

Note: Apps placed in sleep mode can still be used normally when opened again.

Light performance mode can help your Samsung Galaxy use less power during everyday tasks by reducing processing speed and limiting heat generation. This feature can help improve battery efficiency while still providing smooth performance for activities like browsing, messaging and watching videos.

Step 3. Tap Light to reduce power usage during everyday tasks.

Note: Light performance mode does not reduce performance in games.

You can quickly improve your Samsung Galaxy's performance using the Optimize now feature in Device care. This feature automatically checks your device and helps improve performance by closing background apps and clearing memory.

Step 1. Open Settings.

Step 2. Scroll through the options and tap Device care.

Step 3. Tap Optimize now to close background apps and free up memory.

Note: The optimization process is automatic and may take a few seconds to complete.

You can also make a few small changes to help your Samsung Galaxy use less power throughout the day. These tips can help reduce unnecessary battery usage during everyday use:

  • Use Adaptive brightness: Automatically adjusts screen brightness based on your environment to help reduce unnecessary power usage.
  • Use Dark mode: Darker menus and backgrounds can help reduce power usage, especially on Samsung Galaxy devices with AMOLED displays.
  • Turn off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth when not needed: Your Samsung Galaxy may continue searching for nearby networks and devices in the background, which can increase power usage.
  • Keep your apps updated: App updates may include performance improvements and battery usage optimizations.
