Set up and use Gemini on your Samsung Galaxy

Gemini is Google’s new AI assistant designed to make everyday tasks smarter and more intuitive. Whether you’re asking questions, writing messages, or organizing your day, Gemini helps you get things done quickly with natural, conversational responses. Before you start using it, you’ll need to make sure Gemini is set up correctly on your Samsung Galaxy. This guide will show you how to get started, adjust your preferences and explore practical ways to use Gemini in your daily routine.

Note: The information in this guide applies to mobile devices sold in Canada. Available settings, features, and functions may vary depending on your device model, carrier and network connection (Wi-Fi or cellular).

For quick access, set the Side button to start Gemini with a long press:

Step 1. Open the Settings menu. Then, scroll through the menu and tap Advanced features.

Step 2. Tap Side button.

Step 3. Tap Long press.

Step 4. Make sure Digital assistant is selected.

Step 5. Tap the Settings icon (shaped like a gear) next to “Digital assistant”.

Step 6. Make sure Google is selected.

Take a moment to review your Gemini settings to make sure everything suits your preferences. In particular, you can select your preferred voice style.

Step 1. Open the Gemini app.

Step 2. Tap your profile icon at the top right corner of the screen.

Step 3. Scroll through the menu, then tap Settings.

Step 4. Tap Gemini’s voice.

Step 5. Swipe left or right to hear the different voices available.

Step 6. When you find your preferred voice, tap Select to start using it.

Note: Beyond voice settings, Gemini offers several options to customize and improve your experience. Take a moment to explore and find what works best for you.

If you’ve followed the steps above, your Side button is now set to launch Gemini with a long press. Once activated, you can ask Gemini questions, get recommendations, or complete tasks in a natural, conversational way. Here are two examples of how Gemini can simplify your day, but its possibilities go far beyond that.

Request: “What is the best Indian restaurant in Toronto?”

Request: While viewing a webpage, ask Gemini: “Can you summarize the page and create a note?”
