What can you do when your Samsung TV does not show up during the SmartThings discovery process

Samsung TV does not appear in the SmartThings app

You can connect your TV to the SmartThings app without using a SmartThings Hub. If the app has trouble connecting or discovering your TV, there are a few things you should check, like if Bluetooth is enabled. Then, you can try adding your TV to the SmartThings app again.

Note: The information provided applies to TVs sold in Canada. Available screens and settings may vary for TVs sold in other countries. The SmartThings app is compatible with phones running Android 7 or higher, and iOS 12.0 or higher. Compatible Samsung TVs include 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 models.

The following steps will help you connect your TV to the SmartThings app on your phone.

1 Check for software updates on the phone and the SmartThings app. If necessary, update the firmware on the TV.

2 Verify that Bluetooth is enabled on both the phone and TV. When your phone or TV enters Power saving mode, it may turn off Bluetooth. To turn on Bluetooth on your phone, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick settings panel. The Bluetooth icon will glow blue when Bluetooth is enabled. If the icon is gray, it means Bluetooth is disabled; tap the icon to activate Bluetooth.

Note: You can learn how to turn on your TV's Bluetooth and connect certain devices to your Samsung TV using our Bluetooth guide.

3 Check the device range of your phone, which should be within 10 meters (30 feet) of the TV. Also, make sure that there are no obstacles, such as walls or electrical equipment, between the devices.
4 Restart both the phone and TV, and then navigate to and open the SmartThings app on your phone. Tap the Devices tab, and then tap the Add icon (the plus sign) in the top right corner.
5 Tap Add device, and then tap the By brand tab. Tap Samsung, and then tap TV. Follow the instructions for your TV model to complete the set up. If your 2017, 2018, or 2019 TV requires a PIN, you can input the PIN shown on the TV screen into your phone, and then tap Done.

Note: The phone and TV need to be logged into the same Samsung account to pair. Only Samsung models can be added to the SmartThings app.
