How to update the software on your Samsung Smart TV

Every once in a while, your TV will receive software updates to add new features or fix bugs. No matter what TV you have, keeping your software up to date is very important. You can update your TV's software over the internet or using a USB flash drive. Just keep in mind that after a software update your video and audio settings might automatically be reset to defaults.

Note: The information provided applies to Smart TVs sold in Canada. Available screens and settings may vary for Smart TVs sold in other countries.

There are a few things to keep in mind when updating your TV to ensure the process goes smoothly.

  • Do not turn off the TV until the update is complete.

  • Updates generally take a few minutes to complete. If the TV fails to update, please contact us.

  • The TV may turn off and on automatically after completing a software update.

  • Video and audio settings may be reset to their default settings after a software update.

Note: Most TVs will receive updates with new features for about two years. Updates may still come, but will generally be for fixing issues. You can still add new features to your TV with an evolution kit.

If the TV is connected to the internet, you can have software updates installed automatically while you're watching TV. Once the update is complete, it will be applied the next time the TV is turned on. Also, when you agree to Smart Hub Terms and Conditions in the initial setup, Auto Update is set to On automatically.

1 To turn on Auto Update, use your TV’s remote to navigate to Settings, and then select Support.
2 Select Software Update, and then select Auto Update to turn it on.

To get the most out of your TV, you should download software updates as soon as they become available.

1 Using your TV's remote, navigate to Settings, and select Support.
2 Select Software Update, and then select Update Now.

3 New updates will be downloaded and installed on your TV. Updates usually take a few minutes; please do not turn off the TV until the update is complete.
4 When the update is finished, the TV will restart automatically. If there aren't any new updates, select OK to exit.

To download the latest software updates, visit the Samsung Support Center. You can either select your product type and then search for your TV, or enter your model number to access the support page for your specific TV model. On the Support page, locate the firmware file for your TV under Manuals & Downloads. If you find multiple firmware versions, install the newest version. Select Download next to the firmware version to download the compressed file.

1 When the file has finished downloading, locate it and then unzip the file. There should be one folder inside.
2 Copy or Move the folder to a USB flash drive and do not place it inside any other folders. If you place the software folder inside a folder on the USB drive, the TV will not find it.
3 Connect the USB drive containing the software upgrade into a USB port on your TV.
