Galaxy Tab S - How do I use Kids mode on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S?

Kids Mode provide fun and safe content for your child. You can allow access to contacts, apps, and media content stored in your device.

The instructions below are only for devices with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

Opening Kids Mode for the First Time

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps > Kids Mode.

  2. Setup a PIN code.

  3. Enter the Name and Date of birth for the Kids Mode profile. Touch NEXT to continue.

  4. Touch ACCEPT on the Disclaimer to continue.

  5. Touch and checkmark the app(s) your child is allowed to use and tap NEXT or SKIP if you would like to add apps at a later time.

  6. Touch FINISH to complete setup.

Kids Mode Default Icons

Parental Control: Access parental controls such as time limits and available apps.

Note: The PIN must be entered to access this feature.

Exit: Tap this icon to exit Kids Mode.

Note: The PIN must be entered to access this feature.

Kids Media: View videos saved on the device.

Note: Videos must be added via parental controls.

Kids Voice Recorder: Record voices using the Tab's microphone.

Kids Drawing: Access drawing features. Features include: Drawing on an empty canvas, a coloring book, and drawing in sand.

Kids Music: Play music saved on the device.

Note: Music must be added via parental controls.

Kids Store: View and add additional apps just for kids.

Note: Apps can only be purchased or downloaded via Parental control.  Kids can only view and star the apps they like from the Kids store.

Kids Gallery: View pictures taken by the Kids Camera, drawings from Kids Drawing, recorded audio from Kids Voice Recorder, and videos from Kids Media.

Kids Camera: Take pictures and videos using the Tab's cameras. Items such as glasses, hats, and noses can be placed on the image.

Add or Remove Applications from Kids Mode.

  1. Touch the Parental control icon.

  2. Enter your PIN.

  3. Touch Applications.

  4. Touch the Add icon in the upper right hand corner.

    When prompted, review Disclaimer and touch ACCEPT to continue. 

  5. Touch and checkmark or uncheck the app(s) you wish to add or remove. Then, touch DONE

    Not all apps are compatible with Kids Mode. Maximum allowed number of app is 30 apps in Kids Mode.

  6. Apps are displayed in the Kids Home screen as Gifts boxes.

Download Additional Apps

Apps can only be purchased or downloaded via Parental control. Kids can only view and star the apps they like from the Kids store.

The Kids Store connects to the Samsung Apps marketplace. You will need to set up an account to complete a download.To download apps from Kids Mode, follow these steps:

  1. Touch the Parental control icon.

  2. Enter your PIN.

  3. Touch Kids Store.

  4. Download or purchase learning apps and games just for kids. 

    You will receive a notice for new Starred apps or you can view them by touching STARRED APPS on the top right corner in the Kids Store app.

Change Parental Control Password

  1. Touch the Parental control icon.

  2. Enter your current PIN.

  3. Touch More Options > Settings.

  4. Touch Change PIN.

  5. Enter your current PIN to validate.

  6. Enter a new PIN.

Set Daily Playtime Limit

You can set a time limit up to 180 minutes (3 hours).  Timer will pop up notifying the time remaining until the device is put to sleep.  The only way to exit is with the Parental control PIN.

To set Daily Playtime Limit, follow the steps below:

  1. Touch the Parental control icon.

  2. Enter your PIN.

  3. Touch Daily playtime limit.

  4. Select WEEKDAYS or WEEKENDS and then touch Time Limit to select.

  5. Touch Settings to adjust the time limit.

  6. Move the circle around to increase or decrease the time limit by five minute intervals.

  7. Touch DONE.

Exiting Kids Mode without the PIN

You will lose all saved profiles and settings.

  1. Briefly hold down the power button and touch Power Off.

  2. Touch POWER OFF to confirm.

  3. With the device turned OFF, press and hold the Power Key.

  4. Release the Power key once the Samsung logo appears, then immediately press and hold the Volume down key until the device starts up.

  5. The device will start up in Safe Mode.

  6. Touch Apps > More Options.

  7. Touch Uninstall/disable apps.

  8. Slide left or right to locate Kids Mode app.

  9. Touch the Remove icon on the Kids Mode app.

  10. Touch OK to confirm.

  11. To exit from Safe Mode, hold the Power key and touch Restart.

  12. Touch RESTART to confirm.

  13. Once your device finishes rebooting, touch the Download Kids Mode icon  on Home screen to re-install Kids Mode app.
