What is Smart Screen, and how do I use it on my Samsung Galaxy S4?

Smart Screen

Your device supports a feature called Smart screen. Smart screen controls how your device manages the display, and the feature simplifies select interactions with your device.  To access the Smart screen settings, from the Home screen, touch Menu > Settings > My device > Smart screen .

Smart Stay

The Smart stay feature uses the front camera to sense when you are looking at your device and it keeps the screen from turning off regardless of the screen timeout setting.

Smart stay may not work in the following situations:

  • When the device is docked or not being held, such as when the device is placed on a table.

  • The front camera fails to detect face and eyes.

  • When the source of the light is behind you or when using the device in the dark.

  • When the front camera is being used in an application.

Smart Rotation

The Smart rotation feature uses the front camera to sense when you are looking at your device, and it keeps your screen from rotating (based on your face's orientation). If you are viewing your device in portrait mode and happen to lie back on your couch, the screen remains in portrait mode.
