What is the software version on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1?

The Tab 4 10.1 for AT&T operates on Android™ version 5.1.1, Lollipop (T537AUCU1BOG5). When an update is available, this page will contain information on how to obtain the update as well as details on what is included in the update.

The Samsung Customer Care team cannot speculate on when a future software update may be released. The information provided is for U.S. models only; unlocked, rooted, or non-U.S. devices are not supported.

Software Version

To check the software version on your device: 

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps .
  2. Touch Settings .
  3. Touch the GENERAL tab.
  4. Touch About device .
  5. The Baseband version and Build number show the software version on your device.

Recommendations for Updating

Review this section before updating your device.

We recommend the following before you update your device:

  • The battery should be charged to 50% or higher.
  • Connect to a Wi-Fi® network to avoid unnecessary data charges.
  • Ensure there is available storage space on the device memory. The space required will be determined by the update.
  • Use a Samsung USB cable. 
  • Back up your data using Samsung Smart Switch™.

During the update, we recommend the following:

  • Please do not use the device or press any keys.
  • Do not remove the battery.
  • Do not turn off the device.
  • Do not disconnect the USB cable until the update is complete.

Note: You will not be able to place a call during the update, not even an emergency call.

Update via Device

 Before proceeding, we recommend you connect to a Wi-Fi network to avoid unnecessary data charges. File size can vary depending on the update.

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps .
  2. Touch Settings .
  3. Touch the GENERAL tab.
  4. Touch About device .
  5. Touch Software updates.
  6. Touch Check for updates > OK.
  7. If a system update is available, follow the prompts to download and install the update.
    Note: Depending on how many versions your software is behind the latest version, it may be necessary to repeat this process multiple times.

Your device may turn off and on a few times during the update process. After the update is complete, your data are preserved, but if you stop the installation by removing the battery or turning off the device, your device may not work normally. To avoid data loss, we recommend you back up your important data before you begin the update.

You cannot downgrade the software after the update has been completed.

Update via Computer

Updating via computer is not supported on all devices.

You can easily update your mobile device's software using your PC or Mac® via USB cable.

  1. Download and install Smart Switch for your computer. For older devices, it may be necessary to download and install Kies.
  2. Connect the cable to a compatible USB port on your computer.
  3. Connect the other end of the cable to your mobile device.
  4. Allow your computer to install any required drivers for your device. This process may take a few minutes.
  5. Open Smart Switch on your computer, and allow it to make the connection.
  6. If a software update is available for your device, Smart Switch will automatically prompt you to update. At any time, you can click Update.
  7. Click Update to begin downloading the necessary files.
  8. Click OK to proceed.

Your device may turn off and on a few times during the update process. After the update is complete, your data are preserved, but if you stop the installation by removing the battery, turning off the device, or unplugging the USB cable, your device may not work normally. To avoid data loss, we recommend you back up your important data before you begin the update.
