Get to know your Galaxy Book's on-screen keyboard

On-screen keyboard on a Galaxy Book

Use the on-screen keyboard on your Galaxy Book if you prefer typing on the screen itself. The on-screen keyboard can be moved around the screen and minimized when you’d rather use the physical keyboard instead. If you're multilingual, you can also change the keyboard's language settings and add more than one language.

Open and use the on-screen keyboard

The on-screen keyboard is different from the Tablet mode keyboard. It can be used even when the PC isn't in Tablet mode. It can also be moved around the screen and includes different options to make typing more convenient. For example, you can select Dock to set the keyboard to a fixed location on your screen.

To manually launch the on-screen keyboard, navigate to the Start menu, and then search for and select On-Screen keyboard. You can use all of the regular keyboard functions, along with some special features:

  • Mv Up: Move the keyboard to the top of the screen.

  • Dock: Set the keyboard to a fixed location on your screen. This option is only available at certain times.

  • Fade: Make the keyboard transparent, so you can type on it while viewing something else.

  • Mv Dn: Move the keyboard to the bottom of the screen.

  • Options: Open a window with additional options and settings for the keyboard.

  • Nav: Minimizes the keyboard and gives you shortcuts for navigating the Galaxy Book. Select General to expand the full keyboard again.

Change the input language

To use a different language on the on-screen keyboard, you first need to add a new language. Once your language of choice has been installed, the on-screen keyboard can use only that language, or you can switch back and forth between multiple languages.

Select the Start icon, and then select Settings. Select Time and Language, and then select Language. Next, select Add a Windows display language in Microsoft Store under Windows display language. Swipe to find the language you want, select Get, and then select Install.

You can now open your on-screen keyboard and select your preferred language option in the taskbar. When your on-screen keyboard is active, select the Windows key and the space bar to quickly switch between your installed languages.

Additional keyboard options

There are some additional options that will let you change the input methods and customize the on-screen keyboard.

While the keyboard is open, select Options to see advanced preferences. Enable clicking sounds if you like hearing the keys as you type, turn on the numeric keypad, or enlarge the keys to make them easier to see.

You can also change the typing method. Choose between selecting the keys with your fingers, hovering, clicking, or scanning with the touchpad instead. Or use the keyboard with a gaming controller if you have one connected to your device.

Finally, you can select Text prediction to assist you with wording prompts when sending emails or messages, and set the on-screen keyboard to open automatically when you sign into your device.
