More than One Igniter Sparks when Lighting a Burner

More than one igniter will spark when lighting a burner on your range or cooktop. This guide explains why.

Why this Happens

It is normal for the other igniters to spark when lighting a single burner. This design is typical across gas cooktops of all brands. It reduces design complexity, is not a great expenditure of energy, and also has the chance to ignite the gas with a different burner if the one that is trying to be lit does not spark. (This is a safety measure that can potentially help prevent a dangerous buildup of gas.)
