Did you get a new SmartThings Hub? Don't worry about losing any of your devices, routines, and SmartApps, because you can migrate them quickly and easily. That way, you'll be up to date with your new SmartThings Hub and can keep enjoying your smart devices seamlessly.

Migrate your setup

We wish we could tell you there was a magic button to transfer your setup; unfortunately, you'll have to manually delete and re-add your devices and automations. No need to panic, it's really easy.

  1. Select a Location in SmartThings: Navigate to and open the SmartThings Classic app. Tap Menu (three horizontal lines), tap the Location drop-down menu, and then tap the desired location.

  2. Delete all SmartApps: Tap the Automation tab, and then tap SmartApps. Tap the desired SmartApp, and then tap Remove > REMOVE. Repeat these steps for all SmartApps.

Important: Dashboard categories and some SmartApps will no longer be available once deleted.

  3. Delete all Automations: Tap the Automation tab, and then tap Settings next to the desired automation. Tap Remove > REMOVE. Repeat these steps for all Routines.

  4. Delete all Things: Tap the My Home tab, and then tap Things. Tap the desired device, and tap Settings. Tap Remove > Remove.

Note: On iOS and Android, removal of a Z-Wave device will prompt Z-Wave exclusion. Follow the in-app instructions to reset (or exclude) the Z-Wave.

  5. Remove all Locations: Tap Menu (3 horizontal lines), and then tap Settings (Gear icon) next to the desired Hub's Location. Tap Remove Location > DELETE. Repeat for all Locations.

  6. Disconnect the power and ethernet cables from the old Hub, and then move them aside.

Note: Do not skip this step. You must disconnect the previous Hub before connecting a new one.

  7. Add a new Location and add your new Hub

  8. Tap My Home > Things, and then tap Add a Thing. When the device is discovered, tap OK. For a new device, remove the battery tab marked REMOVE WHEN CONNECTING to enter pairing mode.

For an existing device, reset the device to enter pairing mode. You can find instructions in your specific device's user manual.
