Cannot enable keyboard backlight on Samsung PC

If you have a backlit keyboard, it can be turned on and off with the Fn and F9 keys. If the key combination does not work, you may need to install the appropriate Samsung Settings app on your PC. If the key combination does something else (like turn the screen on and off), this means your model does not have a backlit keyboard.

Cannot enable keyboard backlight on Samsung PC

1

Switch the keyboard backlight on with Fn + F9.

Try pressing the Fn and F9 keys to turn on the backlight. If the key combination works, then that's all you need to do. If the key combination does something else (like turn the screen on and off), then your model does not have a backlit keyboard. If the key combination is not working, please adjust the keyboard using Samsung Settings in the next step.
Important
The Samsung Settings app is also where you can configure the backlight's duration or set it to be turned on or off permanently. If you do not see this option (usually in the Input section, possibly under Advanced settings) you may not be using the original Samsung Settings app that was preinstalled on your computer.
2

Install the proper Settings app for your device.

Some models require the proper Settings app to be installed before the Fn keys will work correctly. The latest versions of this app are available through the Microsoft Store. Open the Start menu, type Microsoft Store, and then select it when it appears.

Only one of these versions will be available to install on your device. If none of them are, or the setting for your backlight cannot be found in it, then you will need to recover the Samsung Settings app that was preinstalled on your computer. If this isn't available in the Samsung Update app, you can recover it by performing a factory reset.

To configure the hotkeys, open Samsung Settings, and then select Keyboard. From here, you can set the keyboard backlight settings.

3

Check for driver and app updates on Samsung Update.

Navigate to and open the Samsung Update app to check for updates. If you see a version of the Samsung Settings app available through Samsung Update, install it.
4

Check for Windows updates.

Select Start, and then select Settings. Select Update & Security or Windows update, and check for available updates.
5

Restart the PC.

After installing new updates, restart your PC. Right-click Start, select Shut down or sign out, and then select Restart.
