Water fill issues with Samsung washing machines

Water fill issues with Samsung washing machines
What fill issue is your washing machine experiencing?
To help determine how much water your load is going to need, the washer will first use Weight Sensing. After it drains any water that's in with the load, it rotates back and forth for 2-5 minutes and weighs the load. While this is happening, "Weight Sensing" may display on the panel, or it may display rolling lines.
Once the washer knows how much your load weighs, it will fill with the appropriate amount of water.
Make sure you're familiar with when the washer uses hot and cold water.
Your washing machine uses both hot and cold water dynamically in a system called Auto Temperature Control. Also, different parts of the cycle will use either hot or cold water, or both. For instance, the Warm cycle uses only cold water until the final rinse.
Some temperature settings, even those labeled Cold, will still use the hot water line if the temperature goes below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. If only the cold water line is connected when the washer attempts to use the hot water line, the washer will give a water supply error.
The easiest way to tell if your washing machine is working is to check for an error code. If there is no error code, your machine is using the water in the way it is designed to. Service is not required, although Step 3 may help you.
Review the cycles, settings, and features on your washing machine to determine what the best selections are for the load you're washing. You can view the specific settings allowed for each cycle in the appendix of your user manual.
Make sure the faucets are open and the hoses are connected properly.
In some cases, the hot and cold lines may be swapped, which will cause the washing machine to display an error. Depending on your model, the possible errors are nF1, 4C2, 4E2, CE, or 14C2. Older models may use nF or 4E. On blinking light models, either the Hot and Small or the Hot and Low lights will blink. Service is never required for a hot/cold error. It always indicates that the lines are swapped.
Even if you don't see an error, it's still a good idea to make sure the hot water supply line is connected to the hot water valve, and the cold water supply to the cold water valve.
Check the water heater temperature and capacity.
If you've made sure that your hot water line is connected to your washer properly, but the water is still cold even during the portions of the cycle when it should be hot, make sure your hot water line is actually supplying hot water. There are a couple cases where it won't:
- If your heater is set too low, your hot water won't actually feel very hot. The heater should be set to at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
- If your water heater has used up all the hot water (like if the dishwasher, shower, and washing machine are all running at the same time), you may just be out of hot water at the moment. Check your water heater capacity and recovery rate. If the hot water has run out, it can take up to 30 minutes for it to be replenished.
Check for an error code.
If you are not experiencing an error code, then your washer is working normally and the previous steps will help resolve your issue.
If you are experiencing one of the errors mentioned in Step 2, service is not required. See Step 2 for details.
If you are experiencing any other error code, see our guide for additional troubleshooting.
If only the Activewash sink is not filling, make sure the top door is open. The jet will not work if the top door is closed. Also, the jet only uses cold water. If the jet still will not work with the top door open, visit our Support Center to request service.
Or, if your washing machine is continuously filling with water, turn off the water valves and visit our Support Center to request service for that instead.
Check the water supply hoses.
- Make sure the hoses are not bent or kinked or pinched shut. If the hoses are damaged, replace them.
- Make sure the water supply valves are completely open.
- Make sure you are not using Flood Safe hoses.
- Make sure hot is connected to hot and cold is connected to cold.
A washing machine installed in the summer with only a cold water line will stop and display an error if it gets too cold in the winter. This will occur even when selecting the Cold temperature setting, which will still try to mix in hot water if temperatures go below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Connect a hot water line to prevent the errors, or some models have a Tap Cold or Coldest setting which use only cold water regardless of temperature.
Review the drain hose installation.
- Make sure the drain hose is not inserted more than 8 inches or less than 6 inches.
- Make sure the drain hose does not form an airtight connection with the stand pipe.
- Confirm the drain hose is not higher than 96 inches or lower than 18 inches. (When using a wash basin or sink, it should be between 24 and 35 inches high.)
- Make sure the drain hose is not bent or kinked or pinched shut. If the drain hose is damaged, visit our Support Center to request service.
Cycle power to the washer for 1 minute.

If your washing machine does not fill with water at all, this is a separate issue and the washer will typically display an error code or blinking lights. See our error code guide for the nF or 4C code for troubleshooting steps for this situation, even if it the code does not display.
If the washer continuously fills with water, turn off the water valves and visit our Support Center to request service.
Calibrate your washer.
Your washer senses the weight of your load to determine how much water to deliver. Recalibrating the weight detection ensures that the right amount of water is being used.
The two buttons to press for Calibration Mode varies between models. See your user manual for the steps specific to your model. Here is the most common method:
- Remove everything from your washer.
- Simultaneously press and hold Temp. and Delay End for 3 seconds until Cb appears on the display.
- Press Start/Pause. The tub will rotate back and forth for 1-3 minutes, display En, End, or 0, and then turn off. The washer is now calibrated.
On some models, you hold the two buttons while the washer is already on. On other models, you start with the washer off, hold the two buttons, and then touch Power to turn on the washer while holding the buttons.
Use the correct cycle for the load.
Bulky items such as comforters, blankets, and sheets often do not receive enough water on Normal or Heavy Duty cycles, and should only be washed using the Bedding cycle. When washing comforters, use liquid detergent.
Waterproof or water-resistant items (including water-resistant bedding) should always be washed using the Waterproof cycle. If the washing machine does not have a Waterproof cycle, the Delicates cycle can be used with Warm water and a Low spin speed.
Many other cycles are available on your washing machine and choosing the right cycle for the job will ensure the correct amount of water is used for the job as well.
Use settings like Extra Rinse, Aqua Jet, or Deep Fill.
Set a higher soil level.
