Whether it’s time for an upgrade, your old fridge broke or you’re renovating your home – we are here to help you find the perfect fridge and/or freezer for your kitchen. Ask yourself the following questions to provide a guide on what you should be looking for.

What size fridge do I need?

Consider the room that you have

Firstly, consider the general space you have available in your kitchen (or wherever you plan to place your fridge and/or freezer).

If you already have a set kitchen space or fridge cavity, measuring that space will be enough to figure out how big or what type of fridge you should get. But, don’t forget to give your measurements a bit of room, as you also need to consider how much space is needed around the fridge.

If you are renovating or design a new kitchen space, you want to build space for your fridge early and consider how much room you need within the fridge for now and for the future.

Consider the space you need

When it comes to fridge capacity or format, you need to consider your habits and needs. How much food does your family consume each week? Is it mostly frozen food or fresh produce?

We recommend assessing 3 key things:

1. Household size: The biggest impact to your capacity needs is the size of your household, namely, how many mouths there are to be fed at every meal and is that going to change in the near future.

2. Grocery shopping habits: How often do you go grocery shopping and do you need to store a lot at any given time? Consider your food consumption and storage patterns.

3. Frozen food vs. fresh produce: Depending on how you cook and what ingredients you use, you may need more space in the fridge or freezer or if it changes a lot consider getting a fridge with a convertible FlexZone™ space that can be used as both.

What size fridges are available?

Large size fridges and freezers

If you have a large family with 4 or more family members, the importance of a large fridge and/or freezer is self-explanatory. You cook and dine in more often, store more food at once, and shop for more various types of groceries to keep everyone happy. The larger the family, the larger and more important the fridge becomes. If you have plenty of kitchen space, consider a large fridge with various compartments and high quality features to make sure the family is getting the perfect meal every day.

Medium size fridges and freezers

For couples or families of three, the keyword is to look ahead. This is the point at which the significance of a fridge changes. You will be looking for things that you’ve never considered before, including energy savings, aesthetics, and spaciousness that will accommodate new members to the family while not making the fridge or freezer space too big for the kitchen. Look for no smaller than a 700mm fridge and consider features that will benefit you in the long run.

Small size fridges and freezers

Small fridges (also called as slimline fridges) are essential for single or couple households or for families that have limited kitchen spaces. If you’re looking for a fridge that maximises its size and can change to your needs, we recommend looking for adjustable, foldable shelves and adjustable door guards so you can make the most of your space.

How to measure for a new fridge?

Not sure how much space is needed around a new fridge and/or freezer? Always check a refrigerator is going to fit the space that’s available by measuring the dimensions of the product as well as your kitchen space carefully. Here’s a step by step guide on what you need to measure:

1. Measure Width, Depth, Height

For exterior dimensions, it’s important to factor in the more forgettable components, such as handles, doors and compartments when fully opened so you have adequate room for opening and closing the door. If you’re fitting beneath a counter or low ceiling, make sure to measure for the height as well. Please refer to individual product manuals for a more in depth installation guide on how much space you need to leave around the fridge.

2. Measure the Delivery Path

Don’t forget about the delivery path. Many people have had to return their fridges as it didn’t fit inside their front door, elevators or hallways. To prevent such unwanted returns, map out a route in advance that the fridge freezer has no problem passing through.

3. Don’t Forget the Ventilation Space

When installing your fridge and/or freezer, it’s critical to factor in for ventilation space to make sure your fridge doesn’t overheat. We recommend that you give 5~7cm of space on all sides.

4. Or Your Kitchen Island

If you have a kitchen island, make sure that your fridge and/or freezer is not obstructed by it at any point. Measure the dimensions of your fridge and/or freezer in advance with all doors and compartments fully opened and compare it to the actual space to prevent obstruction.
