What phone camera features are best for you?

Whether you are a selfie lover or a movie director, find the best smartphone camera for you.

How to choose the right camera phone for you

When it comes to choosing the best camera phone for you, ask yourself how you use your phone camera. This will help you work out which features matter to you the most.

Selfies galore

If you mostly use your camera for selfies and group photos, look out for phones with high quality front cameras. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, for example, includes a 12 MP Selfie Camera backed by the AI ProVisual Engine to capture natural skin tones, and Generative Edit to make instant changes to your favourite shots.

Landscape & cityscape

If your phone is filled with photos and videos of cities and landscapes, a smartphone with a telephoto or wide-angle lens, plus digital zoom, can provide additional versatility. While your primary lens can sufficiently shoot these scenes, having a zoom lens can capture that extra-sharp image of a distant skyscraper or landmark, while your wide or ultrawide lens can capture the breadth of an open landscape or city skyline. Some Samsung smartphones even include AI-enhanced digital zoom¹ which allows you to capture the finer details of the world around you.

Portrait mode

Multi-camera setups and new smart photo modes can allow you to achieve a stunning portrait with nothing more than your smartphone. If you take a lot of portrait shots, look for a phone with a multi-camera setup and photo modes like Generative Edit or AI Galaxy filters2. Some phones also include a telephoto lens or digital zoom, allowing your camera to take more versatile shots. Samsung combines cutting-edge photography software with reliable hardware to help you snap that perfect new portrait.

Next level video capturing

If you’re a professional videographer or just tend to take more videos than photos, there are a few things you may want to consider before choosing your phone:

Image stabilisation

Image stabilisation can make handheld videos buttery smooth. Stabilising videos is possible on phones with large image sensors, optical image stabilisation (OIS) or AI-assisted image processing. Optical image stabilisation is often more reliable than digital stabilisation alone.

Image stabilisation is available on newer Samsung Galaxy Z and Samsung Galaxy S smartphones.

Extra stability

For added stability, look for phones with Dual OIS, such as the Galaxy Z smartphones that include Flex Mode. Dual OIS means that the primary and wide-angle cameras have optical image stabilisation, to help support your primary camera keep steady. Samsung foldable devices can allow you to take more stable photos hands-free.

Upgrading your video quality

Video quality has a huge impact not only on how clear your videos look, but also on the amount of flexibility you have while editing. For pro-grade videos, look for smartphones with at least 4K video recording. Some of the latest smartphones such as the Galaxy S25 series even have 8K video. That’s 4 times the resolution of 4K and 16 times the resolution of Full HD!
