Why your Samsung Refrigerator is not Cooling
There can be several reasons as to why your refrigerator is not cooling effectively. Although some problems may require a technician for diagnosis and repair of the fridge, there are also solutions to certain issues that you can perform yourself at home.
Ensure the fridge is plugged in properly.
If the plug is inserted correctly but the appliance is not working you can reset your refrigerator: First, unplug it (or turn off the power at the circuit breaker), and then wait about five minutes for the electrical charge to clear out of it. Then, power it back on again.
Check to make sure that all doors are closed properly, leaving them open will cause the cool air to escape. This can also cause frosting in the freezer section – which will affect cooling operation of fridge) which is related to the door seal not working effectively.
Door seals have to be clean, unweathered and not torn. When seals are dirty it can leave gaps that allow cool air to escape. If you do notice the seals are dirty or there is frost built up on the gasket, clean them and allow your refrigerator 24 hours to properly regain temperature.
However, if there is damage to the seals, service will be required.
Avoid placing your refrigerator in direct sunlight or near a heat source, if possible. The sunlight or heat source can heat up the refrigerator's exterior, causing it to absorb more heat, in turn raising the internal temperature, thus working less effectively.
You may need to lower the temperature of your refrigerator. The ideal temperature settings for the freezer and refrigerator compartments are -19°C and 3°C (-2°F and 38°F). Having your fridge wrongly set will affect the effectiveness of the cooling.
Ensure that there is a minimum clearance of 2 inches from the wall to the back of your fridge. Placing your fridge too close to a wall will hinder its cooling effectiveness as it restricts airflow to the condenser coils which are needed for the expenditure of heat.
Your fridge needs air flow to cool properly. When there is too much food in the refrigerator or freezer you could be blocking an air vent, forcing your appliance to work harder which can cause temperature fluctuations and less efficient.
Performing a yearly deep clean not only ensures cleanliness but will improve the life span and the efficiency of your fridge. Remove and clean all shelves and drawers. Pay attention to the seals, behind and under the fridge. Make sure to dust off the back of the fridge and check the condenser coils are clean and free of dust, especially.
