Use Windows Hello and your fingerprints to securely log in to your Galaxy Book Flex or Galaxy Book Ion

It's pretty scary when someone else finds out the PIN or password for your Galaxy Book. Fortunately, your fingerprints will always be unique just to you. With the Window Hello feature, you can use biometric security to log into your Galaxy Book for a safe log-in every time.

Information provided applies to devices sold in Canada. Available screens and settings may vary for Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion sold in other countries. Windows Hello is not available in all of Windows 10 Galaxy Book devices, and it requires a fingerprint reader.

If you set up Windows Hello you won’t have to put in your password anymore. How great does that sound? But You must set up a Windows 10 PIN before you can use Windows Hello.

Click Start, and then click Settings. Click Accounts, and then click Sign-in options. If you haven't already created a PIN, click Add under PIN. Enter a desired PIN and then click OK.

Then, click Set up under "Fingerprint". Click Get started, and enter your PIN in the "Making sure it’s you" window.

Set up Windows Hello and your fingerprints

Repeatedly lift and rest your finger on the fingerprint recognition sensor until setup is complete.

If you want to change the fingerprint, click Remove and then re-register by following the setup again. To turn off Windows Hello, remove all of the registered biometrics that have been added.

Unlocking the screen with a fingerprint

You can unlock the screen by resting your registered fingerprint on the fingerprint recognition sensor. The screen will be unlocked if the fingerprint is scanned correctly.

  • Prevent the fingerprint recognition sensor from being scratched or damaged by metal objects, such as coins, keys, and necklaces.
  • Ensure that the fingerprint recognition sensor and your fingers are clean and dry.
  • The fingerprint recognition sensor may not recognize fingerprints that are affected by wrinkles or scars.
  • The fingerprint recognition sensor may not recognize fingerprints from small or thin fingers.
  • If you bend your finger or use your fingertips, the fingerprint recognition sensor may not recognize your fingerprints. Make sure to cover the entire fingerprint recognition sensor with your finger.
  • To improve recognition performance, register the fingerprints of the hand you use most often to perform tasks.
  • In dry environments, static electricity can build up in the computer. Avoid using this feature in dry environments or before using the feature, discharge static electricity by touching a metal object.
