Gear VR - First Time Usage of the Gear VR with Controller (SM-R325)

First Time Usage

To get the most out of your Gear VR experience, you need to start things off the right way. Let us show you how!

The provided information refers to Gear VR sold in Canada. The available settings and options may differ for devices sold in other countries.

1 Insert the ends of the main strap (the wider strap) through the loops on the Gear VR headset (1). Fasten the Velcro tabs to ensure a snug but comfortable fit (2).

2 Fit the hook at the end of top strap under the metal bar at the top of the headset (1) and then gently pull upward until it snaps into place (2).

3 Slide the other end of the top strap through the loop in the main strap (3) and then fasten the Velcro tab (4).

4 djust the straps until the headset rests comfortably on your head, with the lenses centered in front of your eyes.
1 Pull the device holder (located on the right side on the picture below) to the right (1).

2 Then, remove the front cover (2).

The USB Type-C device holder is attached to the Gear VR by default. If your mobile device's multipurpose jack is USB Type-C, you can connect the mobile device to the Gear VR. If your mobile device's multipurpose jack is Micro USB, replace the device holder with the Micro USB device holder before connecting your mobile device to the Gear VR.

Presentation of the Device Holder

The USB Type-C device holder is attached to the Gear VR by default.

1 Pull the device holder (on the right side) to the right then remove the front cover.
2 Slide the lock switch to the unlock position (1) and then remove the device holder from the Gear VR by pulling it out (2).

Be careful not to break the connector base while trying to remove the device holder.

3 Take the other device holder and slide its lock switch to the right (3). Align the connector on the grooves and slide it into the holder slot (4) and then lock the holder by sliding the lock switch to the lock position.

Do not slide the device holder into the holder slot while the lock switch is in the locked position. This may damage the lock switch’s latch. Make sure to lock the device holder by sliding the lock switch to the locked position. If not, the phone may accidentally separate from the Gear VR and get damaged.

1 Pull the device holder (1) to the right. Verify that the Lock Switch is in the locked position (2) and then gently push the device holder into either position A or B (3) depending on the size of your phone's screen size.

2 Carefully insert the phone (face down) at an angle into the center of the Gear VR, and then dock the phone's USB port onto the Gear VR connector (1). Make sure that the connector is fully inserted into your phone’s USB port. The device will make a sound when it's connected properly.

Do not forcefully insert the connector into your phone as this may damage the connector. Improper installation may also scratch your phone.

3 Once connected, gently press on the back of the phone until it locks into place (3). The device holder will return to the previous position and secure your phone in place (4). Your phone will emit a sound when it is connected to the Gear VR properly.

If the phone is not securely locked, it may separate from the Gear VR and become damaged. Do not twist or bend the Gear VR’s connector when you connect or disconnect the phone. Doing so may damage the connector.

4 Make sure your phone is oriented properly.

If you the phone is tilted to one side when it is inserted, it may cause discomfort. In this case, the phone's screen will not be aligned properly to the lenses. Also, factory lens protectors are pre-installed on the Gear VR. Remove the lens protectors before you use the Gear VR so you can see clearly. Do not leave the Gear VR in a direct sunlight. Exposure to a direct sunlight can damage the Gear VR and the connected phone.

1 Place the Gear VR on your head.
2 Adjust the length of the top strap and the main strap.

1 Gently pull the device holder at the top of the phone outward (1).

Replace the front cover when you finish using the Gear VR.
