How to customize and get the most out of the screens on your Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8
Your Galaxy Z Fold8 gives you two displays that work together to help you stay productive and access your favourite content more easily. You can customize the cover screen and main screen independently, adjust display settings for a more comfortable viewing experience and personalize your Home screen with widgets, themes and wallpapers that match your style. This guide shows you how to make the most of both displays in your everyday activities.

- Flex mode is not available on the Galaxy Z Fold8.
Your Galaxy Z Fold8 includes two displays designed to make everyday tasks and entertainment more convenient. The cover screen lets you quickly check notifications, browse apps and respond to messages while the device is folded, while the larger main screen gives you more room for watching videos, reading, gaming and multitasking.
The specifications below provide an overview of each display.
Main screen

Your Galaxy Z Fold8 includes a variety of display settings that let you personalize both the cover screen and the main screen for a more comfortable viewing experience. Whether you want smoother scrolling, larger text or display settings that are easier on your eyes, you can adjust your phone to match the way you use it throughout the day.
You can also manage features such as the Taskbar and Continue apps on cover screen, giving you more control over how your Galaxy Z Fold8 behaves as you switch between its two displays.
- Brightness: Change the screen brightness manually or enable adaptive brightness.
- Motion smoothness: Choose the refresh rate that best matches your preferences.
- Eye comfort shield: Reduce blue light and adjust the screen colour temperature for more comfortable viewing.
- Screen mode: Adjust how colours appear on the display.
- Font size and style: Make text easier to read by changing the font size and appearance.
- Aspect ratio: Choose whether supported apps display in full screen or keep their original aspect ratio when using the main screen.
- Taskbar: Show or hide the Taskbar at the bottom of the main screen for quicker access to favourite and recently used apps.
- Continue apps on cover screen: Choose whether supported apps stay open on the cover screen after you fold your device.
Your Galaxy Z Fold8 lets you customize the Home screen on both the cover screen and the main screen to match the way you use your device. You can choose whether both screens share the same layout, organize your apps, adjust the Home screen layout and control how information is displayed to create an experience that feels natural and easy to use.
Whether you prefer keeping both screens synchronized or giving each one its own layout, these settings help you personalize your Galaxy Z Fold8 to suit your everyday needs.
- Cover screen mirroring: Use the same Home screen layout on both the cover screen and the main screen.
Note: To use different Home screen layouts on the cover screen and the main screen, turn off Cover screen mirroring. When this option is turned on, changes made to one Home screen are automatically reflected on the other.
- Home screen layout: Choose whether to use a separate Apps screen or display all apps directly on the Home screen.
- Show Apps screen button on Home screen: Add or remove the Apps button from the Home screen.
- App icon badges: Show notification badges on supported app icons.
Widgets let you see useful information and access your favourite features without opening an app. For example, you can add a weather forecast, calendar events, clock or battery information directly to your Home screen, making it easier to see important information at a glance.
You can add widgets to either the cover screen or the main screen and arrange them to match the way you use your Galaxy Z Fold8.
Note: Some widgets support additional customization options. Touch and hold a widget to view the available options.
Themes let you quickly change the overall look of your Galaxy Z Fold8 by applying a coordinated combination of wallpapers, icons, colours and other visual elements. Instead of customizing each setting individually, you can apply a complete theme to give your device a fresh new appearance.
You can browse available themes, download your favourites and switch between them whenever you like.
Note: Some themes may include matching wallpapers, icons and other visual elements that change the overall appearance of your Galaxy Z Fold8.
If you prefer to personalize your Galaxy Z Fold8 without applying a complete theme, you can customize the wallpaper and other visual elements separately. Choose different wallpapers for the cover screen and the main screen, create a matching colour palette or adjust how your wallpaper appears when using Dark mode.
These options let you give your Galaxy Z Fold8 a unique look while keeping the layout and settings you already like.
- Change wallpapers: Select a wallpaper for the cover screen, main screen or Lock screen.
- Colour palette: Apply colours based on your wallpaper throughout the interface.
- Dim wallpaper when Dark mode is on: Reduce the wallpaper brightness automatically when using Dark mode.
Note: You can use Samsung wallpapers, your own photos or other compatible images as wallpapers.
Your Galaxy Z Fold8 can continue using supported apps as you switch between the main screen and the cover screen. Instead of reopening an app after folding your phone, you can choose to continue using it automatically on the cover screen, swipe up to continue or lock the cover screen when you fold your device.
This lets you decide how your Galaxy Z Fold8 behaves when moving between its two displays, whether you prefer to continue where you left off or lock your phone after folding it.
- Always: Continue using supported apps automatically on the cover screen after folding your phone.
- Swipe up to continue app: Swipe up on the cover screen to continue using the app after folding your phone.
- Never: Lock the cover screen instead of continuing the app.
Note: Some apps may not support this feature.
Although your Galaxy Z Fold8 offers a large display for viewing content and multitasking, there may be times when you need to use it with one hand. One-handed mode temporarily reduces the size of the screen, making it easier to reach items near the top or opposite side of the display.
You can turn One-handed mode on and choose whether to activate it with a gesture or by double-tapping the Home button, giving you quick access whenever you need it.
- Gesture: Swipe down in the centre of the bottom edge of the screen.
- Button: Double-tap the Home button.
Note: To return the screen to its normal size, tap anywhere outside the reduced display area.
