Play and control music on your Samsung smartwatch

Ready to experience the freedom of a wireless, phoneless, and practically weightless workout? If your smartwatch has a built-in speaker, you can play music right from your watch. If it does not, do not worry! All you need to do is connect Bluetooth headphones. Simply add and remove tracks to build the perfect playlist! If you prefer streaming, you can do that too with a Spotify premium account.

Note: Information provided applies to devices sold in Canada. Available screens and settings may vary for smartwatches sold in other countries.

Note: Music cannot be exported to the Galaxy Fit.

Using the Galaxy Wearable app is the main way to export music to your watch. First, make sure the music you want to add is on your phone. Song files cannot be exported directly from a PC when the watch is connected to your Galaxy or Android phone.

1 After you have added your music to your phone, open the Galaxy Wearable app.
2 Tap Watch settings, and then tap Manage content or Add content to your watch.
3 Next, tap Add tracks.
4 You can select songs individually, or tap All in the upper left corner to select them all.

5 Tap Done once you have the songs you want.

Note: You may be required to grant permissions when transferring music. You will receive a notification on the watch to grant them.

6 Next, open the Music app on your watch to access the music tracks. It is that simple!

Note: The Galaxy Wearable app and the Music app support MP3, M4A, AAC, OGG, and WMA audio files. Third-party watch apps may support additional file formats. You cannot export downloaded music from streaming services like Spotify or Google Play. These files are encrypted.

If you have at least an iPhone 6 with iOS 12, you can use the built-in Gear Music Manager for a Galaxy Watch3, Galaxy Active2, Galaxy Active, Galaxy Watch, Gear Sport, Gear S3, Gear S2, and Gear Fit2 Pro. You will also need a computer connected to the Internet.

1 First, make sure your computer and watch are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
2 Then, press the Home key or Power key on your watch, and then swipe to and tap the Music app.
3 If you see a phone icon, tap it to set the watch as the music source.
4 Now, swipe up on the "Now playing" screen, tap Music Manager at the bottom of the Library.

5 Tap START.
6 Next, open a web browser on your computer.
7 In the address bar, enter the IP address displayed on your watch.
8 On your watch, confirm the connection, and then you will be able to manage the music library for your watch using the browser.
9 Once your watch connects, select Add new tracks in the web browser. This will open a file-select dialogue box.
10 Choose the audio file(s) you want to add to your watch, and then select Open.

Note: To select multiple files, hold down the b>Ctrl key on your computer while choosing. Release the key before selecting Open.

11 The file(s) will transfer to your watch. When they are finished, tap OK on the webpage, and then tap DISCONNECT on your watch.

Deleting music stored on your watch is easy like Sunday morning. And do not worry, the tracks you delete from the watch will not be deleted from your phone.

1 Navigate to and open the Music app on your watch.
2 Swipe up from the bottom of the screen. On some models, you may need to tap Library in order to access your songs.
3 Locate the song(s) you want to delete. Tap and hold a song to select it.
4 If you have more tracks you would like to remove, then scroll down and tap each one, or just tap All at the top of the screen to select everything.

Get pumped up at the gym by playing and controlling music straight from your smart watch. You can control the music that is playing directly through your watch or your phone.

Control the music player

Here are the different music player controls:

  • Volume control: Set the volume level.
  • Switch device: Alternate between your phone and watch's playlist.
  • Next track: Skip to the next track.
  • Next track: Skip to the next track.
  • Previous track or restart: Go back to the previous track or restart the current track.
  • Library: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to access your music library. On some watch models, you may have to tap the Library button to access it. Here you can view your tracks, artists, albums, and so on. This option may not appear if you do not have music files stored on the watch itself.
  • More options: Tap this icon to get additional controls for your music, such as Shuffle, Repeat, Favorites, and more. This option may not appear if you do not have music files stored on the watch itself.

Notes:

  • With a Galaxy Fit or Galaxy Fit2, you can use the Music Controller widget to control music playing from your phone. To access the widget, just press the Power key or Home key on the watch, and then swipe left until you see it.

  • You cannot adjust the volume level or alternate playlist with the Galaxy Fit.

  • You can adjust the volume of your music with the Galaxy Fit2 by swiping up twice on the widget, and then tapping + or -.

If you are listening to a music app, such as Spotify, on your connected phone, the watch's music player will automatically switch to that app. However, you can change the app you want to control directly from the watch.

To do this, open the Music app on your watch. If you see a watch icon on the music player, tap it so you see a phone icon. Now tap the More options icon (the three vertical dots), and then tap Music player.

Switch between music players

From here, you can scroll through your audio apps and tap the one you want to control.

Note: This option is only available on select watch models.
