Your Samsung Galaxy lets you use multiple apps throughout the day, from checking messages to browsing the web or viewing photos. RAM Plus helps your device keep more apps available in the background by using a portion of its internal storage as virtual memory. This can make it more convenient to switch between apps and pick up where you left off.

Note: The information provided applies to Samsung Galaxy devices sold in Canada. Screens and settings may vary depending on the device model and software version.

You can adjust the amount of virtual memory allocated to RAM Plus in your device's settings. Follow the steps below to choose your preferred amount:

Note: We recommend reading the next section to understand what RAM Plus can and cannot do.

RAM Plus can help your Samsung Galaxy manage memory when you use multiple apps, but it is important to understand how it works and what to expect. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Helps keep more apps available: RAM Plus uses virtual memory to help your device keep more apps available in the background, potentially reducing how often they need to reload when you switch between them.
  • Does not increase physical RAM: RAM Plus uses a portion of your device's internal storage as virtual memory. It does not increase the amount of physical RAM installed in your device.
  • Virtual memory is slower than physical RAM: Because internal storage is slower than physical RAM, virtual memory cannot provide the same level of performance.
  • More virtual memory is not always better: Selecting a larger amount of virtual memory does not necessarily improve performance or allow more apps to remain available in the background.
  • Does not guarantee faster performance: RAM Plus is designed to help manage memory, not necessarily make your device faster. Its benefits depend on how you use your device and how much memory your apps require.
  • Uses internal storage space: The amount of storage allocated to RAM Plus is reserved for virtual memory, reducing the space available for other content on your device.
  • You may not need to change the default setting: Your Samsung Galaxy comes with a predefined RAM Plus setting. If your device works well with your usual apps, there may be no need to adjust the amount of virtual memory.
