How to improve the performance of your Galaxy device

Last Update date : Sep 16. 2023

Galaxy smartphones may slow down, freeze or crash for various reasons. The likely culprits are full storage space and outdated software. Here are some tips to try to get your Galaxy smartphone back up to working order.

Note: Screen images and menu items may vary depending on your model and software version.

Check your storage space on the Galaxy device and delete unnecessary files

Freeing up some storage can make your Galaxy smartphone perform better. Remove files and apps that need clearing out by using Device care.

➊ Go to Settings, then tap Battery and device care.

➋ Tap Storage.

➌ Check your storage space and select files and apps that you want to delete. Clear them out from your Galaxy smartphone.

Note: If you don't see a delete/uninstall option, the files/apps are required by the operating system and safe to keep.

Close unused apps

Device speed can slow when apps are running in the background. Keep your Galaxy device in optimal running condition with Optimization.

➊ Go to Settings, then tap Battery and device care.

➋ Tap Memory.

➌ Click the Clean now button to free up memory.

Only want to close certain apps?

Go to Memory and tap Apps not used recently. Then select the apps you would like to Force stop.

Add the Device care widget and easily optimize your Galaxy smartphone

Get the most out of your Galaxy phone with the Device care widget. Simply tap the Optimize button on the widget's home screen to start freeing up space.

Diagnostics with Samsung Members

Check to see if your software is up to date

Turn your Galaxy smartphone off and back on again

Restarting your Galaxy smartphone is a simple way to clean up any unused app running in the background and speed things up.

Automatically restart your Galaxy smartphone periodically with "Auto restart." See how to set it up below.
