Cleaning the Outside of the Washer

Check out these tips on keeping the exterior of your washer clean.

Cleaning the Control Panel

  • Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive substances.
  • Do not spray liquid cleaning agents directly on the display of the washer.
  • Some laundry pre-treatment soil and stain removers may damage the feature panel.
  • When using liquid cleaning agents, apply them to the cleaning cloth. Do not apply them directly to the washer. Wipe up any spills or overspray immediately.

Cleaning the Washer Exterior Cabinet

  • Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive substances.
  • Protect the surface from sharp objects.
  • Do not place any heavy or sharp objects or a detergent container on the washer. They can scratch or damage the top cover of the washer.
  • The washer has a high-gloss finish on the entire surface. Be careful not to scratch or damage the surface.

Cleaning the Debris Filter

Samsung Front Load Washers have debris filter access panels located on the front of the unit. The filter is housed inside of the drain pump to prevent the drain hose from being clogged. If not cleaned regularly, unpleasant odor, draining, and filling issues will arise.

• 5E error code will register when the debris filter needs to be cleaned.
• The debris filter should be cleaned periodically, based on how frequently the washer is used. You cannot over clean the debris filter. It is better to clean it more often than not.
• If you were running a cycle with hot water temperature settings (including Pure Cycle™ and Sanitize), the water in the washer may be very hot. Allow enough time (1 hour will suffice) for the water to cool, before performing this procedure to avoid possible injury.

To clean the debris filter, follow these steps:

  1. Unplug the washing machine.

  2. Open the debris filter access cover inserting a coin or a key into the slot above the access panel and gently prying it open.

  3.   Locate the black rubber drain hose (aka emergency drain hose) and if attached, release it from its holder.

  4. Place a towel on the floor to prevent water damage to the floor, remove the white drain plug from the emergency drain hose, and then drain the water into a suitable container.

  5. After water stops draining from the auxiliary drain hose, remove the debris filter by turning it counter clockwise and pulling it out.

  6. Inspect and clean the filter, and then reinstall by pushing it in and turning it clockwise until secured.

  7. Reinstall the emergency drain hose cap and secure the hose in its holder.

  8. Reinstall the access panel by placing it into the holes at the bottom of the access panel opening and pushing/pivoting it to the top.

Cleaning the Inlet Hose Filters

• Be very careful not to damage the mesh filter screen. If either of the screens are damaged, they will have to be replaced.
• Shut off the hot and cold water supply before begining this procedure.
• Take extra care when removing the HOT water connection to avoid possible injury.

Tools you may need:

  • Bucket
  • Channel Lock pliers
  • Needle Nose pliers
  • Small nylon bristled pipe brush

To clean the inlet screen filters, follow these steps:

  1. Shut off the hot and cold water supply lines, and then remove the hot and cold water inlet supply hoses from the back of the washing machine.

    • Use the channel lock pliers to loosen the hot and cold water connections.
    • Use the bucket to catch any water that may be in the supply lines.

  2. Locate the inlet hose filters inside of the hot and cold water inlets on the back of the washing machine.

  3. Remove the filters by pulling them straight out using the tab in the center of the filters.

You may need to use needle nosed pliers to remove the filters as they are very small.

  4. Run the filters under warm water and gently scrub until any visible debris is removed. Be careful not to damage the filter screens. If damaged they will need to be replaced before using the machine again.

  5. Place the filters back into the inlets on the back of the washing machine.

When re-installing the inlet hose filters make sure the tabs on the filters are facing outward.

  6. Reconnect the hot and cold water inlet supply hoses to the back of the washing machine. Tighten the hoses by hand and then tighten a quarter turn using the channel lock pliers.

Make sure that the rubber washers on the hot and cold water supply lines are in place, clean and in good condition.

  7. Turn on the hot and cold water supply and check for leaks.
