  • How do I disable encrypted iOS device back up when Smart Switching data on an Galaxy device using an USB cable?

    To decrypt your backed up data on the iOS device during data transfer to a Galaxy device:
    1. Initiate the data transfer using the OTG cable.
    2. When prompted on your iOS device, enter the password used to initially encrypt the data.
  • What are the points a user needs to keep in mind when if backing up data on an encrypted SD card via Smart Switch?

    1. Encrypted backed up data can only be restored on the device it was encrypted.
    2. Decrypt backed up data on the device it was encrypted on before restoring to another device.
    3. Encrypted data cannot be restored if the device used for encryption was factory reset.
  • Can you transfer contents in Secure Folder via Smart Switch to another Galaxy device?

    No, Secure Folder is a separate storage space. Smart Switch cannot access nor read files in the Secure Folder. To transfer contents from Secure Folder, user needs to first move the contents out of the folder and then initiate data transfer.
  • How to turn off iMessage*

    1. Launch Settings from the Home screen of your iOS device.
    2. Tap Messages.
    3. Tap the slider next to iMessage* to turn it off.

    *iMessage is a trademark of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and the other countries.
  • How do I disable encrypted iOS device back up when connected to PC/Mac?

    1. Connect your old phone to your computer.
    2. Launch iTunes and make sure you have the latest version.
    3. Select your device and under “Backups” uncheck “Encrypt iPhone backup.
    4. Enter the password used to encrypt the data earlier.

    Transfer times vary by the amount of content to be transferred and the number of content and app data. Here are some approximate and general estimates of Android to Galaxy content transfer times using the USB cable transfer option:

    Transfer times vary by the amount of content to be transferred. Here are some approximate and general estimates of iOS to Galaxy content transfer times using the USB cable transfer option:

    10GB = 10mins
    20GB = 15mins
    30GB = 25mins

    Note: Matching iOS applications will be transferred and auto installed from the Google Play Store if the user has signed up with Google account prior to data transfer.
  • When I try to connect between my existing Android device and new Galaxy device to transfer data through Smart Switch Mobile, the connection is often lost or data transmission fails.

    Smart Switch Mobile uses high frequency audio to establish a connection between devices, therefore if speaker of the existing Android device is blocked with the hand or surface, the audio isn’t well transferred to the target device and the connection is lost. And, you may not be able to connect if the application is not open or the button is not tapped on one of the devices, or if a pair of earphones or a Bluetooth headset is connected to the device.
  • How can I transfer my information using Samsung Kies?

    Samsung Kies has been replaced by Samsung Smart Switch. A old Kies backup or a new backup of your old compatible Android device can be transferred to your new Galaxy device using Samsung Smart Switch.
    You will need:
    • A computer with your Kies back-up (from your old compatible Samsung mobile device)
    • USB charging cable
    • Smart Switch software installed on your computer

    Install and launch Smart Switch, then connect your compatible Galaxy device to the computer and follow these steps:
    1. Select 'Restore'.
    2. Select 'Change data to restore' button to select location of Kies back-up.
    3. Select Samsung device data as the type data to restore.
    4. Select the back-up data folder location (if required) by clicking on the blue 'File' symbol.
    5. Choose the content you wish to transfer, then press 'OK'.
    6. **Internet connection required. Data charges may apply.
  • What if my content on the old compatible device exceeds the storage on the new compatible device?

    When switching from iPhone or iPad to Samsung, error notification will be shown if your content on the old compatible device exceeds the storage on the new compatible device. When switching from Android to Android, you will have an option to select which content to transfer. If your new Samsung device supports a micro SD card, you have the option to increase your storage by adding a compatible micro SD card.
  • Is DRM protected media content (music/videos) supported?

    No. Encrypted or digital rights management (DRM) protected content is not compatible and cannot be transferred using Smart Switch.
  • Is DRM free content purchased / downloaded in iTunes supported?

    Yes, as of 2009 iTunes removed DRM from music content is supported by Smart Switch.
  • Is it advised that one always updates and uses the updated Smart Switch mobile app or Smart Switch PC/Mac software when ever there is an update notification?

    You should always use the updated versions of the Smart Switch mobile app or Smart Switch PC/Mac software as every update allows better user experience and with Smart Switch service.
  • Does Smart Switch App require data connectivity to transfer data content items from existing Android device to a new Galaxy device?

    No, Smart Switch uses Wi-Fi Direct which does not require either of the devices, existing or new devices to have data connectivity or local Wi-Fi access.
  • What are the pre-requisites before you initiate data transfer from your existing Galaxy device to the new Galaxy device?

    You should ensure the below requisites are kept in mind for both the devices before you initiate data transfer between your existing device and the new device:
    1. Devices battery needs to be sufficiently charged prior to the data transfer.
    2. Latest Smart Switch mobile app is installed on both the devices.
    3. If transfering data via the cable among Android devices, use the USB adapter (provided within the device box) which needs to be plugged in with the standard USB cable in the new Galaxy mobile device.
    4. Connect USB adapter to the new Galaxy mobile device before initiating the data content items transfer from your existing device.
  • What are the pre-requisites before you initiate data transfer from your existing iOS device to your new Galaxy device?

    You should ensure the below requisites are kept in mind for both the devices before you initiate data transfer between your existing iOS device and the new Galaxy device:
    1. Devices' battery needs to be sufficiently charged prior to the data transfer.
    2. Smart Switch mobile app is installed on your new Galaxy device only.
    3. Disable "Encrypt iPhone Back-up" in iTunes before your initiate data content items transfer.
    4. Switch off the iMessage on your iOS device.
    5. Use the standard iOS device cable along with the USB adapter provided with the new Galaxy device kit and connecting the USB adapter with the USB end of the cable to the new Galaxy device and plug the other end of the cable into the iOS device.
  • What do I do when data content items size too large to transfer from an old Android device to a new Galaxy device?

    A message may appear if the memory space required to create backup of the selected data content items on your existing Android device is insufficient. If such a message does appear, do one or more of the following:
    1. Uncheck some data content items from your old device to allow backup file to be generated.
    2. If your device has SD card compatibility, move some data content items (Videos, Images, Docs) to your SD card ( in the old device) and then try to create the content items backup.
    3. To transfer rest of your data content items, add a micro SD card to your new Galaxy device.
    4. Ensure there is sufficient amount of free memory space on the existing device (internal memory) as much as that of the data size that needs to be transfered to the new Galaxy device.
  • How can I transfer content (music, videos, images, documents etc.)* from my PC to my compatible Galaxy device and vice versa?

    You can transfer your content stored on your PC to your compatible Galaxy device by following the below steps:
    1. Connect your compatible Galaxy device to your PC using the compatible USB cable.
    2. Once your Galaxy device is connected to the PC, device drivers will be installed automatically.
    3. Provide access to your Galaxy device by clicking on the "ALLOW" option within the pop up message that appears on the mobile device screen.
    4. An 'AutoPlay' pop up window will appear on your PC screen.
    5. Click on Auto Play > Open device to view files > Phone/SD card
    6. Copy the content you want to transfer into the relevant folder.
    7. After content transfer, disconnect your Galaxy device.

  • How can I transfer content (music, videos, images, documents etc.)* from my Mac to my compatible Galaxy device and vice versa?

    You can transfer your content stored on your Mac to your new compatible Galaxy device by following the below steps:
    1. Pre-requisite: Download and install Android File Transfer software for Mac.
    2. Once installed, connect your compatible Galaxy device to your Mac using the compatible USB cable.
    3. Android file transfer detects the connected Galaxy device automatically and presents the file folders within the Galaxy device.
    4. If transfering music, you can select and drag the compatible music files into the relevant file folder within Android File Transfer window.
    5. If transfering images and videos, first create a new file folder on the Mac home screen and then transfer the selected content items into that folder.
    6. Transfer the images and videos from the new file folder to the Galaxy device with in the Android File transfer window.
    7. After content transfer, disconnect your Galaxy device.

  • What are the steps do I need to take in case Smart Switch software (Windows PC) throws an error when its launched after installation?

    If you are experiencing issues when launching Smart Switch on your PC, it may be because of the Microsoft Visual C++ redistribution package not being installed. To resolve this, follow the below steps:
    1. Download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ redistribution package from this link.
    2. Once again open Smart Swich on your PC and follow the instructions to backup your data.
