Set up and Record Live TV

Life can get crazy at times and every now and then you just want to kick back and watch your favourite shows, only to find you have missed an episode.

With selected Samsung Smart TVs, you are able to instantly record, play and pause or schedule a Live TV recording. You can set it up for just one episode or even a whole season. Follow the steps below and rest easy knowing that you’ll never miss another episode.

Note: This feature is available on select TVs. Please refer to the specs of your TV to see if this feature is available.

You will need a USB or portable hard drive plugged into your Smart TV to store recorded programs. You will also need to have an aerial connection and channels tuned in.

Before Recording or using Timeshift

To record or use Timeshift, the USB or portable hard drive must be formatted. When the storage device is plugged into your TV, a pop up will appear prompting you to format your drive. Please note, formatting will delete all of the data on the drive.

1 Ensure you have a USB device inserted into your TV or TV's One Connect Box and you are on Live TV and watching a TV channel you would like to record
2 Press the 123 icon button on your TV remote

2 Select Schedule Manager

3 On the Recording & Schedule Manager page, cycle across to the Schedules tab. Select either Add Viewing or Add Recording.

4 Select the TV Channel you wish to record. With the Repeat option, you can choose to schedule for Everyday, Select Day or Do not repeat.

5 You can hop over to Settings to select the minutes you wish for to Start Recording Early or Continue Recording After

You can pause and rewind live TV by using Timeshift. Activating this function disables the Broadcasting function.

Note:

  • To use Timeshift, you must connect a USB device for recording.
  • This feature is available on select TVs. Please refer to the specs of your TV to see if this feature is available.

When Timeshift or Schedule recording aren't working, these steps may help resolve the problem.

Note: The recording/timeshift feature is available on select TVs. Please refer to the specs of your TV to see if this feature is available.

1 If the Timeshift or recording function cannot be used.
  • Check if there is a storage device connected to the TV.
  • Recording will automatically stop if the signal becomes too weak.
  • Check the free space on the storage device.
  • The function will not work if there isn't enough storage space on the USB device
2 If you cannot record videos received from an external device or Samsung TV Plus
  • The recording function is only available for digital broadcast channels received by the TV. You cannot record videos received from an external device or Samsung TV Plus
3 If the "Format Device" message appears when the Timeshift or recording function is used.
  • To use the recording function, the storage device connected to the TV must have been already formatted
  • Formatting the storage device deletes all data from it, and the storage device is formatted in NTFS
