Speaking of pennies, the largest NAND chip manufacturers are throttling their output by half at this very moment, so if you've been looking to upgrade your PC's memory, I would do so ASAP ! Prices are about to follow everything else as of late.... they will be going through the roof!!

Bottom line is that this SSD is blazing fast and is no slouch when it comes to loading games, fileels, apps, or transferring files to and from the drive. The WD SN850x is a close competitor, but what makes the 990 Pro stand out is probbaly the sustained read/write speeds and the Magician software. Samsung Magician is just a great app for anything you need to use or check the status of your Samsung drive or other drives in your system. The only catch is that you cannot clone data to a non-Samsung disk; only from another brand to Samsung, so that's not so convenient.

My one major downside is drive health. In performance mode, the drive seems to degrade its health rapidly. This may have to do with improper nvme drivers and/or the full performance mode.
Hopefully, we see updates to fix the health issues. I recommend to stay in the “standard mode” until a fix is implemented.
Otherwise, I’m thoroughly impressed! With fast read/write, as well as sequential, believe this drive has great potential for both creative work as well as gaming!

These drives provides the most consistent performance as far as the read and write speeds are concerned. I can watch 4k movies on plex with these drives without any issues. Even during the peak loads, these drives works exceptionally well and does not get hot unlike SSD's from other reputed brands, which means increased lifetime of these drives. Additionally these drives are reasonably priced. Overall I would highly recommend these to anyone who wants to use them in their PC for general use, boost system performance, playing games, for use in NAS system etc.

I've had everything from mechanical hard drives to 2.5 inch SSD's, to M.2 and everything in between plus samsung SD cards, ram, phones, tablets, watches and much more. To be honest, I have never really had any issues with any of their products and no, they do not pay me to say this. As far as I'm concerned, a warranty is only as good as the product, and i've never had to use the warranty for anything samsung related. In the end it's up to you, but if you want a superior product with a great history, you can't go wrong with any of their products here.

Got this SSD new from Samsung as a replacement for a 980 PRO that failed only 18 months after purchase.
Since then I've continued to have constant issues with the computer freezing and requiring a reboot on a daily basis (sometimes multiple times) which happens both while the computer is in use and while it's idle.
None of this was an issue before the drive replacement (other than when the computer completely died when the original failed).
I guess the computer booting back up after a hard reboot, unlike the original drive, is a silver lining; but I would much rather the computer be stable again.

Purchase for the speed which is okay, the first time setup write test is was the correct speed as stated but it was burst speed, the second test went back to real world speed, am happy with using external enclosure SSD case doing video editing on my computer
The fastest external device I am using a TB4 cable and 40gb case, I know the speed are not what is on the box because it is not in computer, it is so much faster than my Samsung 980 PCIe NVMe SSD 1TB.
I like it so much I am buying another one as a mirror backup, of course as an external device.

Sometimes it's not worth it, but the Samsung 990 Pro was definitely worth it. I'm upgrading from a 980 Pro and the difference in load times is absolutely noticeable. Not to mention my 980 Pro was a 500gb and the 990 Pro is 1tb, so in addition to increasing speed, I doubled storage space. When I say this drive is fast, I mean it's FAST. I will definitely be purchasing the 2tb 990 Pro for my gaming console ASAP. Samsung is absolutely on top of the SSD game right now.

Read and write speeds were always consistent and the Samsung Magic app is a nice touch to check the drive's temps and keep it up-to-date with the latest firmware, very efficient piece of software. I have had no issues and failures with the drive over the past 2 years of purchasing it and it has moved between 2 devices so I would figure it is very reliable.
My next investment is to get the 9100 Pro 8TB variant to store my huge catalogue of video content.

I've had this in my new system for a bit now, and I haven't had any issues so far, and moving my OS to the new ssd breathed some new life into the system. I'm gonna be looking to completely upgrade my system within the next year or so, but will for sure transfer and make use of this still.
Samsung memory is great, im probably gonna end up buying them in the future save for maybe some NAS hard drives.

Sequential read speeds up to 7,450 MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 6,900 MB/s over a PCIe 4.0 slot. Installing windows took less than 10 minutes, games are loading noticeably faster than before and file transfers are maxing out my mechanical hard drives. The Samsung Magician software is pretty nice too. It gives you a dashboard for monitoring health, optimizing performance, scheduling backups and such. Really happy so far with this drive and well worth the purchase.

Performance: These speeds are insane. I knew that Gen 4 drives were faster, but this is just bananas. My computer starts up so quickly that it feels like I cannot get my finer off of the power button before it is booted.
Software: Samsung Magician is a must install. It give you peace of mind being able to check on the drives performance and health. It also gives you an easy way to keep track of the firmware on the drives to make sure that is up to date as well.

I really needed more space on my laptop and this was a perfect upgrade. Installation was simple since this was my first M.2 NVMe ssd, and the use of Samsung Magician software you can use for cloning the drive is great. I could tell that the SSD that came with the laptop vs the 990 pro, once I booted up windows I could tell a difference. I usually have multiple browsers open or gaming on my laptop and with this new gen 4 drive really made things feel really quick. This Samsung 990 Pro was so amazing that I might actually buy the 2TB version for my second slot on my laptop!

Pairing up four of these in RAID 0 on a PCIe Gen5 motherboard, I get 22,000 Read speed, and pretty close to that in write speeds. Random R/W is all over the place, but the thoughtput is still higher than a single drive and has been highly reliable. I think combining four in this configuration may not have been the most cost effecient, at the time, but they are highly efficient drives without stepping into the 9100 Pro at PCIe Gen 5. I have a fifth for my OS and couldn't be happier!

It works like a beauty in my ROG strix, however it seems a tad slow on my pc but I'll admit I think it's time for a new motherboard, my boot drive idles high constantly and I have a 4090 and 9 5700x with a kraken. I'm not sure if the 990 pro is known for thermal throttling but if so in the coming months I'd definitely consider even getting another with a heatsink.

There are others that are faster, yes, but they cost way more usually. These ones are also just really reliable. I bought two 990 Pro to RAID 0 for my business laptop. Both failed within 6 months. I bought two replacements and rebuilt the RAID. 5 months after my 3rd and 4th 990 Pro were purchased, the 3rd drive has failed.
Not really sure if I go and buy a FIFTH! drive because it's the easiest solution and helps me avoid downtime rather than doing a complete system rebuild with another brand of NVME.
The whole point of my build is high uptime and no data loss. Samsung's 990 Pro does not allow that to happen. Massively disappointing.

I've had several other very reputable brands, and all of them have failed over time within a couple years. I've only ever had 1 samsung storage device fail, and it was a cheap SD card. You will only get these speeds on newer PCs that support Gen4 PCIe but with Gen3 the drives are still plenty fast for the vast majority of users. The 1,200 TBw endurance and 1.5 MTBF ratings are good as well, you will get many years of use out of this drive with no worries of failure. Installation is straightforward and no different from any other m.2 drive. The blazing performance of this drive is especially great for content producers and those that work with large graphic or video files. I haven't experienced any problems or cons with this drive so far.

I installed Win10 on it and it took a blink of an eye (literally). I had to install it again just to make sure it really did it! The performance is blistering fast and comes with a nice 5 year warranty coverage. Design is thin yet sturdy. The 1tb version good enough for an OS install, software installs, and several game installs. I’ve installed this as my secondary drive to install my games and save documents. Man the data transfers are just stupid fast and how fast it loads games is a game changer. No more waiting like on spinning drives. Im hoping Samsung releases 4tb+ NVMe drives in the future. Incredibly fast and reliable. Still going strong. They do run hot. Definitely recommend a some sort of heatsink or way to cool these. Have them installed in my asus rog strix 18 which I bought brand new at the same time. Still have the original ssd sticks as backup which hopefully will not need to use. Recommend for laptops that have room for a heatsink.

I first tested the drive in a external enclosure and then moved it over to my laptop and getting it installed and setup was no problem. No software comes in the box but you can get Samsung's Magician software from their website. That software is a must if you want to manage, monitor, or customize your drive. Make sure to keep your drive firmware updated too as those can often provide fixes for existing or newly discovered issues. This drive has been great so far and I'll continue to use it as my primary boot drive. Gaming load times have noticeably improved for me too!

The only thing that really annoys me is that there's no way to enable hardware encryption without a full fresh reinstall of Windows which I rather not do. Also had a bug with a software with it not wanting to over provision automatically or show my partitions.

From checking the speeds, I am getting close to the speeds that are reported, which I am happy with. So far, I have done a bunch of tests and the drive is in good health and running well. In the near future, I will be migrating my intensive programs to the drive and will compare boot and load times with the 970 Samsung drive.
Note: Anyone using this drive in a PC/Laptop, I HIGHLY recommend Samsung Magician. It is a piece of software from Samsung that allows you to keep track of your drive, run tests of the drive, and make sure the drive is healthy to keep your data safe!

The speed were as stated on there stats.My start up time on my laptop was 3 seconds from the time I clicked on the power button to the desktop screen. Shutdown was just about as fast. Really made for quick install of large programs that took seconds and not minutes. I did install the latest firmware and never had an issue with the drive. This SSD definitely lives up to its "Pro" name in terms of speed and performance. My new system boots up lightning fast, and game load times are significantly reduced. While the performance is top-notch, the price point does make you pause and consider if you truly need this level of speed, as some reviewers have pointed out cheaper alternatives exist. However, if you're chasing the best possible performance and are willing to pay for it, this drive won't disappoint.

It just works, and continues to even after using the heck out of it. I've enabled/disabled full disk encryption as well as formatted it a few times since buying it (both for reasons unrelated to the drive), and it still runs just as fast as when i bought it. I consider it a no-brainer for anyone with an m.2 slot to fill it with an Evo.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been a fan of Samsung drives for a long time due to their excellent reputation, reviews and performance. Indeed, I have had multiple generations of their NVMe M2 SSD drives in both my laptop and desktop PCs, both as system and storage drives, upgrading as new versions were released. Thus, I was excited to install the newest top-of-the-line 990 Pro, and it doesn't disappoint. The installation process is very straightforward, especially if you have experience with these drives in the past. My 2 TB version is showing excellent write and read speeds, moving large files with ease.
I am concerned, however, about recent reports of quicker than expected drive health degradation with increasing use. Time will tell how widespread this problem is, how it will affect my own drive, and what Samsung will do to correct the issue.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The price for performance on the 990 pro is incredible, I love how when I am editing videos the processing speed is almost instantaneous because I have a beefy pc and never did it break on me or stutter. The samsung magic app has a great interface that is also easy to use and update the 3 NVME SSDs I have, 2 are 1 terabytes and 1 is a 2 terabyte. I got all samsung because they all intergrade so flawlessly since they have the same speed and are the same brand.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's an incredible SSD that has insane read/write speeds for it's price, and the only reason why I would recommend buying it over the new 9100 series is because of its more affordable price point and the fact that no 4 TB SSD'S on the market can even compare to the value you get with the 990 PRO. It has read and write speeds and a 4 TB storage that would normally cost a lot more when browsing anywhere else, making it the superior choice when buying an SSD.

Drive is fast but one of the main reasons I bought this is for the Hardware Bitlocker support which after doing everything the instructed to do, it won't work (yes I booted to the Samsung USB to do a Secure Wipe, and yes I enabled Hardware Encryption in the Magician Tool, and yes I did a clean install of Windows 11 Pro, and yes I have a modern motherboard Asus X570+ with the latest BIOS which has the latest TPM support for hardware encryption to work).

The device works both in a pc or in a portable form, but the device really shines hooked directly to your motherboard. Since the drive is very fast it can create a bit of heat so always try and have a thermal plate on it or air flow over it. I use this drive for all of my games and that is it, having a Samsung SDD to run your games will both provide faster more reliable gaming.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this SSD because I every other Samsung memory product I own has been flawless (portable external ssds, flash drives, sd cards, memory sticks) and this SSD matches the spec exactly. I haven't had a single failure it's extremely fast and it doesn't run hot (even without a bulky heat sink) like another nvme ssd from another brand I won't mention. I don't use it as my primary C drive sSD because I didn't want to copy everything over. But I use it as my main workspace for coding projects, docker, vms, wsl, gaming, OBS... everything intensive outside of the windows environment. I still use a standard old school HDD for longer term storage but to be honest it's just so I have more space for the games I don't have any concern that this SSD is going to fail anytime in the next few years based on my experience with previous Samsung memory products.

I popped it into the M.2 slot on my console and started it up. The console did a speed test and showed 7450mb/s! I couldn't believe it was testing at the full advertised speed. I primarily put them in MSI laptops, but recently have placed the 980's in External USB 3.2 adapters and placed the 990's in the pc's All work extremely well. I'm waiting for 4TB and larger (the 2TB's are essentially large boot drives, and larger units would be used as storage drives (superfast storage drives!)

Also if Samsung can improve their cloning software (Data Migration/Magician) as in my case it was not able to clone my SSD 100% and was missing on health partition and OEM/Recovery partition

I would 100% recommend this drive to others looking. Just wish I knew the 4TB drives were coming out before I purchased the 2TB drives.
