How to install an app on your Samsung TV
Your Samsung Smart TV opens the door to more than just live TV. It’s a hub for streaming apps, games, and useful tools. Whether you're using The Frame, a QLED model, or another Samsung Smart TV, managing your apps is part of customizing your entertainment experience. In this guide, you’ll learn how to install new apps, and even lock or remove apps you no longer need. It’s all about making your TV work the way you want.
Note: This information applies to Samsung TVs sold in Canada. Steps may vary depending on your TV model and software version.
- Connect your TV to the internet: Make sure your Samsung TV is connected to a stable internet connection. You can test your network by using another device, like your phone or tablet, on the same Wi-Fi.
- Sign in with your Samsung account: A Samsung account is now required to access the Smart Hub. Without signing in, you won’t be able to open or download any apps. If you skipped this step during setup, go to the Smart Hub Home and select Set Up Now to sign in. This is essential for using your TV’s smart features.
- No account yet? You’ll need to create one: If you don’t have a Samsung account, you can create one using a phone, tablet or computer. Once it’s ready, you’ll be able to sign in on your TV.
- Some apps require internet access to work: Apps that stream content, such as Netflix or YouTube, need an internet connection even after installation.
- App compatibility: If you can’t find a specific app to download, it likely means that the app isn’t compatible with your TV model. This is more common with older TVs. Over time, app requirements can increase, and if your TV’s hardware (like memory or processing power) can’t support them, the app won’t appear in the store. In that case, you can still enjoy your favorite services by connecting an external device, such as a media player, a game console or a compatible TV box.
If you don’t already have a Samsung account, you can create one using your phone, tablet or computer Once that’s done, signing in on your Samsung Smart TV is quick and straightforward.
Enjoy a wide range of content such as videos, music, sports and games by installing apps on your Samsung TV.
Note: Before selecting Open, it may be a good idea to select Add to Home. This will add the app to your Smart Hub Home screen, making it easier to find and access later.
Keep the apps you use most within easy reach by adding them to your Smart Hub home screen. They’ll appear in the Apps row directly on your TV screen, so you can launch them quickly without having to search.
Note: You can move apps in the Apps row at any time. Just highlight the app, press Down on your remote, and select Move to reposition it.
Lock apps with a PIN to prevent others from opening them. This feature is especially useful for restricting access to apps that may not be appropriate for children.
Note: The default PIN is 0000. To change the PIN, navigate to Settings and then select All Settings. Select General & Privacy, then System Manager, and finally select Change PIN to set your own PIN code.
You can uninstall apps from your Samsung TV to free up space or remove ones you no longer use.
Note: If you change your mind, you can reinstall the app at any time (see the section above for help installing apps).
