How to cook with your Samsung microwave

Person pressing button on a Samsung microwave

Microwaves have been a modern convenience for quite some time. But your Samsung microwave makes things even easier with all of its special features, such as Sensor Cook. Select what you're cooking and leave the calculations up to your microwave. After a long day at work, you can finally relax.

Note: Microwave features vary by model.

Use Auto Defrost

The defrost cycle provides you with the best defrosting method for frozen foods. The microwave automatically sets the defrosting time according to the weight you enter. You can also refer to your user manual for some defrosting tips.

  1. Place your food on the turntable, and close the door. Select the type of food that you are defrosting by pressing the Auto Defrost button one or more times. Your user manual will have a chart of how many times to press the button for different types of food.

  2. Then, set the weight of food by pressing the Number buttons. For example, to set 1.5 lbs, press 1, and then press 5. Then, press START to begin defrosting.

  3. The microwave beeps half way through defrosting to remind you to turn the food over, but won't stop and wait for you, so make sure to pause it and flip the food. Then, press START to finish defrosting.

Note: You may press STOP/CLEAR once to pause and twice to cancel.

Use Auto Cook

Ever wonder just how long you should microwave something? Tired of food coming out too hot or still cold? Auto Cook takes the thought out of it: just tell your microwave what you're cooking (and how much) and it's already preprogrammed for what settings to use.

Your user manual will have a breakdown of the exact options for your model, but the basic process for using this feature is the same:

  1. Place your food on the turntable, close the door, and then press Auto Cook.

  2. Use the Up/Down buttons, or Number buttons to select the number that corresponds to your desired category (e.g. Reheat, Cook, etc.).

  3. Press OK, and then select the number that corresponds to the type of food you're cooking (e.g. Pasta, Beverage, etc.).

  4. After selecting the food, press START if you don't need to set the amount.

If you do need to set the amount, press OK after selecting the category and type of food. Enter the amount of food and then press START.

  5. The microwave will automatically use the preprogrammed time and settings.

Use Sensor Cooking

Sensor Cook takes microwave technology one step further by detecting when your food is done cooking. It does this by measuring the amount of moisture being released by your food.

The available options will vary by model; you can check your user manual for specifics.

  1. Place your food on the turntable, and close the door.

  2. Then, select your desired category by pressing the corresponding button: Popcorn, Potato, Pizza, Veggies, Beverage, or Reheat.

  3. If needed, press the selected button again or the Number buttons to select a specific program (e.g. Frozen dinner), and then press START.

  4. Like we said, the cooking time and temperature will be automatically adjusted according to the selected recipe. When the microwave detects that the food is done, it will stop and beep 4 times.

You may refer to your user manual for the corresponding number; the numbers and options will vary by model.

  1. Place your food on the turntable, close the door, and then press Speed Cook.

This is the classic function of the microwave. Just put your food in the microwave, and enter your desired cook time.

  1. Place your food on the turntable, and close the door.

  2. Then, use the Number buttons to set the cooking time (max: 99 min, 99 sec). For example, to set the time to 10 minutes, press 1 and 0 for the minutes, and press 0 and 0 for the seconds (10:00).

  3. To begin cooking your food, press START. When cooking is complete, the microwave will beep 4 times.
