Galaxy Watch 6 IHRN and ECG: How they work and how to use them?

Last Update date : 2023-08-28

Heart health is an indicator of your overall health!

The Galaxy Watch6 series monitors heart rate (HR) and atrial fibrillation (AF) and notifies you when abnormal signals are detected. There are two electrodes on the back of the watch and one electrode on the top button. The three electrodes read the flow of microcurrent that occurs when the heart beats, calculate the heart rate, and detect atrial fibrillation.

If you receive the Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN), you can quickly take an ECG without calibration. When you measure the ECG, make sure to sit still and slightly place your index finger on the top button for 30 seconds.

Note: Please note that the Galaxy Watch6 series is not a medical device. It is designed to be used as a simple preventive measure.

  • In some countries, ECG is not supported because of the requirement of SAMD (Software as a Medical Device) approval, which can take months for each country. Please check the list of countries where you would like to have this feature.

  • IHRN is available in 14 countries: The US, KOR, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Costa Rica, Dominica Rep, Ecuador, Georgia, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Panama, UAE, and Russia.

  • The Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature is available on Galaxy Watch running Wear OS version 4.0 or higher.

  • Wear OS 4.0 is supported by Galaxy Watch 6 and soon will be available in the existing watches including Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5.

  • The ECG1.2 app includes the Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature in addition to the existing ECG1.1 service.

How do I measure my blood pressure on the Galaxy Watch6 series?

Calibration is the very first step in measuring your blood pressure with the Galaxy Watch6. Follow the introduction after running the Samsung Health Monitor app. Measure your blood pressure with the Galaxy Watch at the same time as FDA-approved Cuff blood pressure and enter the result into the mobile Samsung Health Monitor app. You need to proceed 3 times in total and re-calibration is required after 4 weeks (28 days).

You do not need a mobile or the Cuff blood pressure within 4 weeks after the calibration to measure the blood pressure with your watch.

- Measuring position: Sit still and measure within 20 seconds.
