Why do black bars appear on either side of my TV for some content?

Last modified : Mar 16. 2018
Smart TV

The black colour bands on the sides appear because of the differences between the aspect ratio of the incoming signal and the aspect ratio (screen size) of your TV. For example, your wide screen TV has an aspect ratio of 16:9, while if the incoming signal has an aspect ratio of 4:3 then in such a situation the additional space is covered by black bars.

Adjusting the aspect ratio of your TV (or connected external device such as a set-top-box) can resolve that issue of black bars showing on the left and right sides of the picture.
