I purchased a UA55F900 UHD tv with the hope of watching 4K when it was transmitted. Hope turned to joy when Foxtel began transmitting in 4K last year. I upgraded my Foxtel box and to my suprise the info on the tv screen said it was not compatable with my TV. After confusing and contraditory communcation with Samsung and much research I discovered the original One Connect Box did not have HDMI 2.0 capability. Samsung assured me that an SEK4500 would fix the problem but with a bit more research found that unless you had a SEK3500 it would still not work. Samsung were not helpful at all. I have now purchased a second hand SEK 3500 and guess what! I can now get 4K. No thanks to Samsung

Wish I had looked at the other reviews first before purchasing. Although the user guide states compatibility with the F9000 UHD TV, as with the other reviews, it does not connect to the TV, there is no one connect port they are using a newer EVK port to hdmi. It has to be plugged into the other one connect box so you still need the remote control for that one to turn the TV on and off. So much for buying a future proof 4k/UHD TV, it cant even play 4k because it doesn't have the right codec. Ripped off! But I'm sure its great for TV's with a hdmi port on the TV.

Do not buy this product without reading the Samsung forums and other reviews on this product. What the website does tell you, is that if you use this product it needs to work through your correct Sek3500 or original One Connect box, as it needs to go through an HDMI connection. I have a 55HU9000W and it was the so called top of the range and all connections went through One Connect box, so to use this item, I need to connect it to my original One Connect box. So in reality it is a very expensive media player connected to my One Connect box.

Needs to be piggybacked into old one connect box so you end up with 2 boxes as this one needs to plug into a usb port which most TV's with the one connect box don't have. Then you need 2 controls to operate tv. One to operate tv and one to operate the evolution kit effectively making it an overpriced set top box for a TV that by all rights shouldn't need one

Hi, I bought the Samsung UHD Evolution Kit SEK-4500 recently to pair with my old Samsung TV HU8500. I bought this mainly to use the new FoxTel app as the FoxTel app available on HU8500 is very old and clunky. To my surprise, SEK-4500 does not support FoxTel app at all. Furthermore, SEK-4500 built in UPnP player cannot recognise m3u playlist files too. Can you please release a firmware update to fix these 2 issues? Its worth noting my other Samsung TV UA55MU6100W seem to be having more up to date firmware, working fine on the 2 issues raised above. Appreciate a quick fix on these please. Thanks

Wow, so surprised to see such a name like Samsung could mislead so many people and get away with it. Just for the record I own a UA65F9000 which I paid $4500 from JB HiFi 3 years ago. I thought I bought a 4K not so. Im in the market for a 4K player and now a new TV. Will not be dealing with Samsung for the rest off my life.

Came here to sort out some audio issues with my F9000 model tv and thought I needed the sek-4500 to address them. Saw the reviews and contacted Samsung only to be told I'd need the SEK-3500 to not lose the audio functionality, but that they don't sell it anymore, so I could just get the 4500 and not have the functionality. What a disgusting mess of a product, I am replacing this as TV with something other than Samsung as soon as I decide on the model and not getting anything Samsung ever again.

As people have said its an addition to your current box not a box upgrade. Takes one more nic, one more power. Doesn't work with logitech remotes so need 2. No hardware upgrades so still tied to original/sek2500/sek3500 features depends on what you connect it too. . Shouldn't be called a sek4500 at all. Turns into $$$ media box. Next tv will not be samsung .(have about 6)..

I have a 2013 F8000 Smart TV. It has room on the back for (up to) a SEK-3000/XY upgrade kit. Here are some points I can help iron out for those unsure of what to make of the change in Evolution kit format from the previous plugin models to the newer box designs. 1. If your TV was sold with a One Connect Box you will need to piggy back off it using your original TV remote to power on the TV and the 4500 Evo kit remote to use the Evo kit functions. (this is anecdotal as I do not have a One connect TV) 2. If you have a standard designed TV (as I do) with all the connections going up around the back where an Evo kit would go you'll connect the 4500 using a supplied 'Connect to HDMI' cable to any standard HDMI on you TV (not the ARC or HML ports) and not a One Connect cable. 3. If you connect with HDMI you can get away with (mainly) using the new Evo kit remote by using Anynet+ to power on the TV over HDMI with the new Evo kit remote. All operations can utilise this single remote *except picture/panel adjustments which require the original TV remote. 4. By using the 4500 upgrade you will forgo ARC and MHL as these are not supported by this Evo kit. To send digital audio to an A/V receiver you will need to use the supplied optical cable. This also means the HDMI-CEC function will not be available when an A/V receiver is connected. To adjust the AV receiver you'll need to use its remote control. Other than the above quirks the upgrade made sense for me as my 2013 TV was no longer getting software/firmware updates and the SMART Hub in it had been progressively stripped of its features. Most of the Apps, too, had newer versions that were more slick and run much faster on the new Tizen OS, which is much faster to load also. And the picture seems to be more crisp. A good upgrade if you can navigate the pitfalls and find it at a special price.

We got two, for older TV's for the kids playroom and our master bedroom. The only reason we got it, now all the tvs work the same (the new Q7, and the other 4k TV, the two older models) Works fine on a plain non upgraded 2012 or 13, 7100, and 8000. No upgrade or evolution kit on either one! We wanted control of Netflix, Amazon, etc, with the updated profiles and controls due to kids. Picture quality is fine with us and the older TV's, the weather and news for us, 4k is not that impressive anyway. Kids won't notice anyway, Disney does not look any different. What is REALLY disappointing, the remote has no IR codes that can be copied (say to Logitech Harmony Remotes, tried multiple ways) Open forum post on Logitech Harmony forums. For this kind of price, for a media player that is not 4k, this is INEXCUSABLE. Almost as bad as that assinine volume warning everytime I turn up the volume on my note 8. If that warning is present on the Note 10, I will NOT be buying anymore Samsung phones. No "do not show this again" on the volume of the Note 10, no Note 10. Maybe a patch can be released to allow IR control of the SEK 4500 by other remotes. For the price of this thing, a patch for IR codes is the least you could do If I can get the Harmony hub to control it, I would give it better rating, and better review

This device is just a media player (think Apple TV or Roku). It's shaped like a One Connect box, but doesn't actually function like one. If you have a set like the HU9000 or similar it does not connect directly to the TV (unlike the SEK-3500, which was a true evolution kit). You will have to daisy-chain the SEK-4500 to the existing One Connect Box via a HDMI port, leaving both boxes connected. It leaves redundant interfaces - it doesn't replace the inbuilt one, just adds an additional interface layer on top of it - and removes features like ARC, MHL, and 3D (if your TV supported it). It really is just an Apple TV, Roku, or other media player, but with fewer apps and a crappier OS. Don't bother with it!

When I learned about the sek4500 I was very excited. I ran out and bought one without reading any reviews. Well what a mistake buying one was. This device is more of an add on then a true evo kit. The sek4500 works through an older evo kit or TV not a stand alone unit. Its more like a interface overlay then a evo kit. My Harmony remote will not work with 2 different evo kits and thats only one of the issues. I always buy a Samsung phone and also own 5 Samsung tv's in our house, but after this misleading product maybe its time to try Sony for the next tv.

i bought 2 new frame tv this year and bought this evo kit for my parents which have 55" es8000 and maybe it is not the same upgrade kit as used to be but...my parents are very happy with that because they got: 1. same smart hub as my frame tvs. 2. faster response from remote control. 3. samsung tv+ with tons of channels which is more than enough for them to cut the cable. yes, i would recommend this product if you don't want to buy a new tv.

It does what it says. I'm not sure what these other reviewers are talking about. Netflix says HDR on their HDR compatible titles only when HDR is capable of playing on your device. It never said that before I connected the SEK-4500. Even my AppleTV 4K. Before the max setting I could set on my AppleTV was 4K SDR. After connecting the SEK-4500, my AppleTV now sa 4K HDR. So, it does do what it says it's supposed to do.

Some of the information about the product that I have found online is misleading. It is not simply a ROKU. The SEK-4500 is absolutely processing video from the external devices that you have connected and I have noticed an increase in picture quality among the sources that I use. The OS on the evolution kit makes the TV feel modern again and the universal remote is very nice. 4K content is being passed to my HU8550 despite the recommendation to not use the one MHL HDCP 2.2 port. Using developer tools, I was able to see that the quality of the stream is not denigrated at the source and is coming through as a 4K high bitrate stream (before installing the EVO Kit this only occurred if I connected the device to the one HDCP 2.2. MHL port available on my TV). The device is lacking firmware updates as the built in apps have a preference to stream with HDR enabled despite not changing the backlight and contrast of the TV. If HDR is not possible with the TV, it should be disabled for TVs that don't support it. If it is possible, it should automatically modify the backlight. Even better, allow the user to disable HDR as some of the older displays supported by this EVO kit do not have the display brightness to make using it worthwhile. Also, devices connected do support 3D for older TVs that used to support this, however, a firmware update should be provided to switch to 3D automatically (currently you need to manually enable 3D with the old remote on the TV). Finally, although ARC is not supported on the SEK, the instruction manual (that is only provided on the European website for some reason) says to connect your receiver to the ARC port on original TV.
