Galaxy Note9 - Multitasking: Multi Window and App Pairing (SM-N960W)

Two apps are better than one, and Multi Window is better than constantly switching between apps. It will make a you multi-tasking champion by letting you alternate between apps, adjust the size of the display, and copy information from one app to the other. On top of that, App Pairing and Apps Edge make multi-tasking on your phone even easier. Watch videos and reply to messages at the same time, or browse the internet while talking to your friends on social media.

Screens and settings available may vary depending on your Canadian wireless service provider and your software version.

Use multi window

You're struggling with that tough math assignment, but you found a helpful tutorial on YouTube. You can use Multi Window to work on the problem while you check out the video step by step.

To access Multi Window, touch Recent, which is located to the left of the Home button by default. To launch the app in split screen view, touch the Multi Window icon, which is located to the left of the X icon in the desired app's window. If the Multi Window icon is not available, that app does not support split screen view.

Use Multi Window

The app is now pinned to the top window. A list of your recently used apps will be displayed in the bottom window. To open the second app in the bottom window, touch an app, or touch APP LIST to view all apps available in split screen view. Select the app you want to open as the second app. Now you can finish your homework while you follow along with the video.

Not all apps support split screen view.

Window controls

The Multi Window is really handy, but how do you control it? Just read the information below to learn how to resize the windows and how the Window Controls work. To access the Multi Window controls, touch the Multi Window control between the apps:

Window Controls

A. Add pair to home: Create shortcut of current app pair that will appear Home screen.

B. Snap window: Crop the selected window and anchor it to the top of the screen.

Turn multi window off
Turn Multi Window Off

When you want to give Multi Window a break and just use one app, you can exit Multi Window by touching the Home button. If Multi Window is still active, the first Multi Window app and the Multi Window icon will be displayed in the top of the screen. To turn off Multi Window completely, all you have to do is touch the X.

Create app pairing

If this is the first time using enhanced edge features, you will have to complete the tutorial.

Separately opening apps you always use together is annoying. Instead of flipping back and forth, create an App Pair, so those two apps will open simultaneously in split screen.

Create App Pairing 1

From any screen, open Apps Edge by swiping the Edge panel to the left. Touch Add Shortcut, and then touch Create App pair. Select two apps from the list of available apps. The first app will appear at the top and the second app will appear at the bottom in split screen view. Touch DONE, and then touch the Home button.

Create App Pairing 2

To use the App Pairing you've just created, open Apps Edge by swiping the Edge panel to the left, and touch an App Pair available. Start multi-tasking all you want!

Not all apps support split screen view.

Remove shortcuts from apps edge

Maybe trying to do homework while playing a game isn't the best idea. Remove that shortcut to make room for a new one.

Remove Shortcuts from Apps Edge

Regular app shortcuts can be removed the same way from Apps Edge. From any screen, open Apps Edge by swiping the Edge panel to the left. Touch and hold the shortcut you want to remove. Drag the shortcut to Remove.
