Galaxy Note9 - Pair and Charge the S Pen (SM-N960W)

You love Bluetooth devices because they give you tons of flexibility. And you were extra excited when you heard the new Note9’s pen is Bluetooth compatible! But the S Pen is no normal pen and it doesn’t use normal Bluetooth. Keep reading to learn how to pair, charge, and reset the awesome and innovative S Pen.

Screens and settings available may vary depending on your Canadian wireless service provider and your software version.

Pair the S Pen

You won’t have to worry about entering pairing mode with your new S Pen. It has a super smart and advanced design, so it doesn’t have to be paired to your phone like traditional Bluetooth devices. That's because its Bluetooth is different and emits a signal at a very low frequency. It’s enough to connect the S Pen to your phone all the time, but you won’t have to constantly pair and unpair it.

Pair the S Pen

If the connection between the S Pen and your Note9 is lost, just insert the S Pen into the Note9 for a couple seconds. It will pair instantly and the connection will be reestablished.

The operational limit of the S Pen is about 9 m (30 feet). If you move outside of this range, the S Pen will disconnect from your phone.

Charge the S Pen

The new S Pen is built to last, but its battery can drain if you leave it outside of your phone for over 30 minutes, or if you press the S Pen button too many times (about 200 times). To charge your S Pen, insert it into your phone for 40 seconds. In that time, it will recharge to a full 100%.

Check the Battery Level

But how will you know if the battery needs to be charged? No worries, when your S Pen’s battery reaches around 20 percent, you will get a notification reminding you to charge it.

Check the Battery Level

To check your S Pen’s battery level at any time, open the Air command menu by hovering the S Pen over your phone’s screen and pressing the button. Touch Settings in the upper left-hand corner and then touch S Pen Remote. Your S Pen’s battery level will be displayed at the top of the screen.

Reset the S Pen

If your S Pen won’t connect to your phone or if it doesn’t seem to be charging, resetting the S Pen is a quick fix. To reset it, open Settings, and then search for and select S Pen. Touch S Pen Remote and then touch More Options. Touch Reset S Pen and wait for the S Pen to reset itself.

Reset the S Pen

Resetting your S Pen will return all of its features, including remote commands, to their default settings.
