Set up and use your Samsung SmartThings Tracker

Maybe you always forget where you parked your car. Or, maybe you are concerned about an elderly relative. If that's the case, you should set up a SmartThings Tracker, so you will not ever have to worry about your children, your pet, or a priceless item. You will be able to track their location right from your phone. You can also reset or delete the SmartThings Tracker at any time.

Note: The provided information refers to devices sold in Canada. The available screens and settings may differ for devices sold in other countries. You can visit the SmartThings website to check device compatibility and gather more information.

In order for the Tracker to work, it needs to be connected to a SmartThings hub. Here are the compatible hubs:

  • SmartThings V2 hubs
  • SmartThings V3 hubs

Note: To keep track of people or items, your SmartThings Tracker uses advanced technology, but connecting the SmartThings Tracker to your SmartThings account is simple.

1 Navigate to and open the SmartThings app.
2 Tap the Devices tab (at the bottom of the screen).
3 Tap the Home icon.
4 Select the Location where you would like to add the SmartThings Tracker.
5 Tap the Add icon (the plus sign), and then tap Add device.
6 Under the "By device type" tab, tap Tag/Tracker, and then tap Samsung.
Under the "By device type" tab, tap Tag/Tracker, and then tap Samsung.
7 Select your Tracker, and then tap Start.
8 ress and hold the Tracker's Power button to turn it on, and then wait for the lights to blink red-green-blue.
9 Press the Power button again when the light turns blue.
10 Tap Done to finish the process.

Note: Once it is connected, you can create a custom automation using the SmartThings Tracker and set locations. For example, you can have the lights automatically turn on when the Tracker arrives home.

Note: With the SmartThings Tracker, you do not have to wonder if your teenager arrived at their friend's house safely. If a loved one has the SmartThings Tracker with them, you can request their location at any time with the On-Demand feature. Plus, your SmartThings Tracker has an extended battery life and a Power Saving mode as well, so you will only need to charge it once or twice a week.

1 Navigate to and open the SmartThings app.
2 Tap the Devices tab (at the bottom of the screen).
3 Tap the Home icon.
4 Select your desired location, and then swipe through the rooms to find your SmartThings Tracker.
5 Select your SmartThings Tracker.
Select your SmartThings Tracker.
6 Tap the Request icon (in the lower right-hand corner). You will then be sent the coordinates.
7 Or, your loved one can press the Tracker's Power button twice to send their real-time location to you.

Note: To reset your SmartThings Tracker, you will just need to remove it from SmartThings. This will automatically activate the reset process.

1 Navigate to and open the SmartThings app.
2 Tap the Devices tab (at the bottom of the screen).
3 Tap the Home icon.
4 Select your desired location, and then swipe through the rooms to find your SmartThings Tracker.
5 Touch and hold your SmartThings Tracker.
6 When the popup menu appears, tap Edit.
7 Tap Delete device.
Tap Delete device.
8 Tap Delete to confirm.

Note: Once it resets, you can add the SmartThings Tracker back to the SmartThings app if desired.
