Troubleshoot the Remote for Samsung TV

If your remote is not working, the first thing you should always do is replace the old batteries with new ones. If that doesn't work, follow the tips below.

The provided information refers to TV sold in Canada. The available settings and options may differ for devices sold in other countries.

To replace the batteries, you'll have to open up the battery compartment on your remote, and then physically remove and replace the batteries.

The battery cover is located in the back of the remote control. Some remotes may require that you push the rear cover to access the batteries. Make sure the positive and negative ends face the correct directions.

When you turn on the TV for the first time, your Samsung Smart Remote should pair to the TV automatically. 

If the remote does not pair to the TV automatically, point it at the TV’s remote control sensor, and then press and hold the Return and Play/Pause buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds or more.

Perform a Test

You replaced the current batteries with a fresh set, so now it's time to test the remote. Press the Power button to turn on or off your TV.

If the remote is still not working, attempt to pair the Smart Control with the TV again.

If it is still not working, contact Samsung Support.
