What Aspect Ratio DVDs Should I Buy For My Wide Screen TV?

Last Update date : May 16. 2018

You should buy DVDs labeled Wide Screen. Wide screen DVDs display in the wide screen, 16:9 format.

Note: Many older movies, though labeled wide screen, were produced in a wide screen format (for example, Cinemascope) that has a different aspect ration than the current 16:9 wide screen standard. When you play one of these movies, your wide screen TV will display black bars on the top and bottom.
