What to do if your Washing Machine has no power

A Samsung washing machine in a kitchen unit.

A washing machine with no power can stem from something as simple as a loose plug or as complex as a failed power board. Below, you can find some possible resolutions before contacting Samsung Support.

Please note: Before conducting any investigation, the product must be correctly isolated from the power supply.

Helpful tips

  • Many Samsung washing machines require a long Power press (3–5 seconds) to start.
  • Ensure Child Lock is off; if it is active, buttons won’t respond.
  • After power cuts or surges, wait a minute and try again. If unresponsive, contact Samsung Support.
  • Use a dedicated electrical outlet.
  • Do not keep resetting tripping breakers, as it signals a genuine fault.

Please note:

  • Do not work with wet hands or feet and keep the area around the washing machine dry.
  • Do not bypass fuses or use DIY repairs.
  • Do not bypass safety devices (door lock, float switch).
  • Follow EU-rated safety standards and regular maintenance per the manual.

Before assuming there’s a fault:

1 Test the outlet by plugging in a phone charger or a lamp. If the lamp or phone charge functions, then continue to test the appliance in this socket.
2 Hold the Power button for 3–5 seconds

Please note: Some Samsung models need a longer press.

3 Ensure the door is fully closed until it clicks. For “Add Wash” models, confirm the small extra door is shut

Contact Samsung Support immediately if:

  • The outlet works, but the washing machine is still dead.
  • A replaced fuse blows again.
  • You smell burning or see melted parts, soot or water around the machine.
  • The RCD (Residual Current Device) trips when pressing Power.
  • The power works only when wiggling the plug or cable.

In all such cases, unplug immediately, do not reconnect to another socket and mark the machine as unsafe for others. These are signs of internal faults requiring professional inspection.

Please note:

Before contacting Samsung Support, have the following information ready to speed up assistance:

  • Model code & serial number (found on the door frame or back).
  • Timeline: last working moment, what happened (tripped breaker, power cut, leak, etc.).
  • Actions tried so far (socket test, fuse replacement, reset).
  • Photos of plug, cable or socket if damaged or discoloured.

Power issues with your washing machine can sometimes be caused by your home’s electrical setup rather than the appliance itself. Check the following points to help identify common household electrical problems that may prevent the machine from turning on:

1 Check the RSD (Residual Current Device) and MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) in your home fuse board

If a breaker has flipped, reset it safely using dry hands. If unsure, ask a professional.

2 Plug the washing machine directly into a wall socket

Do not use extension leads or multi-plugs. Extensions can cause voltage drops or overheating and are unsafe for high-power appliances.

Please note: Never allow children, elderly or disabled persons to handle electrical tools.

Problems with the power plug, socket or cable can interrupt the electricity supply to your washing machine. Carefully check the items below to ensure power is being delivered safely and correctly:

1 Inspect the plug and wall socket

Unplug and check for heat marks, looseness or discolouration. Reinsert firmly. If the socket is damaged, call an electrician; if the plug is faulty, contact Samsung Support.

2 Check the power cable

Look for cuts, burns or kinks. If damaged, do not use the machine. Avoid makeshift repairs and only use approved, rated components, as unauthorised fixes can void the warranty and pose fire or shock risks.

Please note:

  • Samsung engineers do not perform home electrical repairs beyond the appliance itself. If the fault lies in household wiring, you’ll be referred to an electrician.
  • Only certified engineers with proper authorisation may perform electrical work beyond the appliance. Such actions are considered third-party repairs outside Samsung’s warranty liability.
