How to use Live Translate on your Samsung Smart TV
Live Translate breaks down language barriers by translating closed captions in real time while you watch live broadcasts. This feature is the first on-device AI translator available on Samsung TVs. With no need for external devices or apps, Live Translate brings added convenience right from your TV. Whether you're watching news, sports, or international shows, it makes it easier to follow along.
Check your TV compatibility and requirements
To benefit from this feature, let’s make sure your Samsung TV and settings meet the requirements.
- Supported models: 2025 TV models starting from the QN70F series or above, including OLED TV and The Frame (LS03F/LS03FW). For 2024 models, Q80D series is supported after an OS update. This feature is not supported on models without tuners.
- Supported languages: Korean, English, French (France), French (Canada), Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Mexico), German, and Italian. Supported languages may change through future updates.
Live Translate works when watching a broadcast with closed captioning, received by antenna input. To use the feature, sign in to your Samsung account and set a service provider. Some languages may require downloading a language pack, which requires a network connection. Translated subtitles are based on caption data from broadcasters, so performance may vary depending on the quality and timing of that content.
Please note:
- Availability, speed, and accuracy may vary depending on the TV model, region, selected language, channel, network conditions, or caption quality.
- The feature may be changed, suspended, or removed.
How to turn on Live Translate
You can turn on Live Translate through the settings menu or by selecting a nudge alert when foreign-language content is detected.
1. Configure through the Settings menu
Step 1. Press the Home button on your TV’s remote control, navigate to Settings, and then select All Settings.
Step 2. Select Advanced Features, then select Live Translate Settings.
Step 3. Select Live Translate to turn it on.
2. Configure using the nudge alert
A prompt appears when foreign-language content is detected, specifically when the OSD (on-screen display) language does not match the broadcast language. Select Live Translate to turn it on.
Please note:
- This feature is only available for broadcasts with closed captioning provided through antenna input.
- The feature will be available for TV Plus and data broadcasts after August 2025.
- Caption Settings(Accessibility) will be turned off when Live Translate is enabled.
Change Live Translate settings
Once Live Translate is turned on, the TV will typically detect the broadcast language automatically. If detection fails, you can manually set the language of the program you're watching. You can also select your preferred translation language—some may require a language pack download over Wi-Fi. In addition, you can configure how the translated subtitles appear by adjusting options such as font size, on-screen position, and background color.
1. Broadcast Language: Set the source language for translation. This is usually detected automatically, but you can set it manually if needed.
2. Translation Language: Choose which language you want to translate into. Some options may require downloading a language pack. A network connection is required for the download.
3. Size: Adjust the font size of the translated subtitles. Three size options are available.
4. Position: Move the translated subtitles to the top, bottom, left, or right side of the screen.
5. Subtitle Background: Turn the background color for translated subtitles on or off.
With Live Translate, you can enjoy a variety of content in your preferred language—directly on your Samsung Smart TV. It supports multiple languages and lets you adjust how subtitles are displayed, helping remove barriers so more people can access and enjoy TV content with ease.
