Want to quickly backup your data to your SD card or USB Drive but not too sure how? Simply follow the below guide for step-by-step instuctions.

Please Note: This guide is designed for Australian variant Galaxy devices, if you have an international device and require further support click here to get in touch with your Samsung subsidiary. 

Prior to following the below please ensure you have a OTG adapter handy if you are backing up using a USB.

The content that will be saved to your SD card or USB through Smart Switch are shown below;

  • Calls & Contacts 
  • Messages
  • Apps
  • Settings
  • Home screen
  • Images
  • Videos
  • Audio
  • Documents

Note:The following content cannot be saved through Smart Switch: draft or failed messages, calendar events from synced accounts, apps that can't be transferred due to security or compatibility issues (Samsung Pay, Voice recorder, Galaxy Wearable, Calculator) and default wallpaper or theme store wallpapers.

1 Launch the Smart Switch app
Launch Smart Switch
2 Tap on the External Storage icon on the top right of the screen
Tap SD card icon

Enure you have connected your external storage device either using an OTG, Type-C adapter or designated SD Card slot.

3 Tap on USB Storage
Tap on USB Storage
4 Select the data you would like to back up then tap on Next
choose what you would like to backup then tap back up
5 Allow your device to back up your data

6 Once your data has been backed up tap on Next > Done

7 To safely unmount your USB, swipe down on your screen to access your Notification panel then tap on the USB storage added > Unmount

2 Tap on the External Storage icon on the top right of the screen
Tap SD card icon

Enure you have connected your external storage device either using an OTG, Type-C adapter or SD Card.

3 Under Restore from tap on USB Storage
Tap on USB Storage
4 Select the data you would like to retore then tap on Next
choose what you would like to restore then tap Next
5 Allow your device to restore your data

6 Once your data has been restored tap on Next > Done

7 To safely unmount your USB, swipe down on your screen to access your Notification panel then tap on the USB storage added > Unmount
