If there is ice in your ice bucket, but it won't dispense, please read our ice dispenser guide for additional troubleshooting steps.

For instructions on how to remove your ice bucket, please refer to your user manual.

Most models have an Ice Off icon, which will light up when the ice maker is off. For ice production, change it so it is not lit. If you are not sure how to do this, please read your user manual.

Alternatively:

  • Top Freezer models have an Ice On icon. If you want to make ice, you should leave this icon lit.
  • Family Hub models control this function in the Fridge Manager app.
  • Models with dual ice makers will have an Ice Off icon for each ice maker, but only one button to control them both. Continue to tap the button repeatedly until neither icon is lit.

Check the control panel of your Samsung refrigerator to determine what procedure applies to your specific appliance:

The RS27T and RS22T models have two water lines to connect. If they are cross-connected, the water and ice dispensing functions will not work correctly. If you have one of these models and the dispenser has not worked since installation, check these lines.

Important: If your model does not have a water dispenser, skip to step 5.

Your water line should have enough pressure to fill 6 ounces (3/4 cup) in less than 10 seconds. Just dispense water into a measuring cup.

If no water dispenses at all, verify that the water line is connected. Please read our troubleshooting guide for more information.

Note: If your model has a dispenser and it passed the water pressure test, skip to step 7. If your model doesn't have a water filter, skip to step 6.

  • If your model has a dispenser, remove the water filter and try the water pressure test again. If the dispenser failed the water pressure test at first but now it passes, then you need to replace the water filter. Use only Samsung brand filters.

Note: If your dispenser only passes the water pressure test when the filter is removed, but it's a new filter, then your water pressure is too low. Move to step 6.

  • If your model doesn't have a dispenser, then you need to judge for yourself if it's time for a filter replacement. Water filters are rated for 300 gallons of usage, which in an average household, represents about 6 months of usage. If it's been a while since the last time you replaced the filter, try removing it and checking if the ice production issue is resolved. If that fixes the ice production issue, then you need to replace the water filter. Use only Samsung brand filters.

Note: Skip step 6 if all of the following are true: (1) the model does not have a water dispenser, (2) the ice maker has worked before, (3) there is no reason the water pressure would have recently changed - as in, the fridge has not been recently moved or the water line recently adjusted.

Since water pressure is not controlled by the refrigerator, it will need to be adjusted at the source. The step you can take immediately is to make sure the home's water supply valve is fully open.

If that doesn't increase the water pressure enough (20 psi is required), contact a plumber for further assistance. Service is not required and no further troubleshooting is needed until the water pressure issue is resolved.

If you're using a Reverse Osmosis system to filter water, this may cause the water pressure to be too low. In this case, contact a plumber for assistance in increasing water pressure.

Unplug the refrigerator or turn it off at the circuit breaker for 2 minutes, and then power the fridge back on.

As the fridge boots up, it may display an error code. If so, perform the troubleshooting specific for that error code by referring to your user manual (which may immediately confirm that service is required without any further troubleshooting).

Locate the Test button on your Samsung ice maker, which may require removing the ice bucket to access. For more detailed instructions, consult your user manual. Once you have found the Test button, proceed with the following steps:

1 Press and hold the Test button until you hear a chime (which may take up to 10 seconds).
2 The test takes about 6 minutes. During the test cycle, you will hear ice drop into the bucket and the water valve energize to fill the ice maker.
3 At the end of the test, another chime will be heard.

After performing the previous steps, you should begin to see ice production within 8 hours. However, it may take a full 24 hours for ice production to return to normal amounts (approximately 2 trays of ice every 3 hours).

Be sure to dispense ice occasionally during this period. If ice piles up at one end of the bucket, the ice maker will think it is full and stop ice production.

Note: To gain a better understanding of why dispensing ice can aid in ice production, we recommend reading our comprehensive guide on troubleshooting when your Samsung ice maker is not producing any ice.

If there is still no ice after 8 hours, please contact us for additional assistance.
