How to connect and control the washing machine with SmartThings

SmartThings allows you to seamlessly connect and control your washing machine from your smartphone. With advanced features and automation, you can monitor cycles, receive notifications and customise settings remotely. Learn how to set up SmartThings and make the most of your smart home experience.

Choose your pairing method:

  • Scan QR code
  • Scan for nearby devices
  • Select from the list of devices

Please note: Before starting, make sure your Wi-Fi is connected and your washing machine is turned on.

Before choosing your pairing method, follow the steps below each time:

1 Open the SmartThings app on your smartphone

Scan QR code

1 Tap Scan QR code

2 Use your smartphone’s camera to scan the QR code on your washing machine

3 The app will automatically detect and pair the washing machine with your smartphone. Once successfully paired, tap Done

Scan for nearby devices

1 Tap Scan nearby

2 The app will automatically search for devices nearby. Select your washing machine when it appears

3 The app will pair the washing machine with your smartphone

Select from the list of devices

1 Tap Add under Samsung devices

2 Tap Washer

3 You can choose one of the following setup methods: Scan QR code or Add without QR code. The setup process will then follow the same steps as previously mentioned

Activate 'Smart control' on your washing machine

When you touch the Smart control button in the control panel, the indicator will be activated

Choose a laundry cycle

Tap Cycle to see the list of available cycles. Scroll down and select the laundry cycle that you want and tap Done

Water temperature control

Tap Temp > Tap the temperature you wish to set for your wash

Number of rinses

Tap Rinse > Select the number of rinses you want

Spin speed

Tap Spin > Tap the rotation speed that you want

Please note: The spin speed is measured in Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) and refers to the speed at which the drum rotates during a spin cycle. The faster the spin of your machine, the more water that is squeezed out of your laundry, and the quicker it will dry.

Create your own laundry cycle

Tap My cycles > Tap the minus (-) symbol to delete a cyle or tap the plus (+) symbol to add one to the list > Tap Save

Set up notifications

To choose your notification preferences, tap the menu icon (three dots) > Tap Notification settings > Choose between Do not disturb or Always allow emergency alerts
