Create a Mobile Hotspot on Samsung Devices

If you're on the go or out and about and need to quickly share your mobile data allowance - see the steps below on turning on the Mobile Hotspot option of your Samsung phone or tablet. 


You'll be able to connect up to 10 other devices to share your internet connectivity - but make sure to keep an eye on your mobile data usage. Using the Mobile hotspot will consume both battery life and the data allowance. Most Australian telcos allow mobile data tethering, but if you're having trouble using the Mobile Hotspot option, it may not be enabled on your phone plan. Get in touch with your service provider for information on data usage and any excess charges.

Turn on a Mobile Hotspot

1 Open the Settings app on your phone or tablet
2 Open the Tethering & Mobile Hotspot option
  • Android OS 4.4 & 5 - Settings > Connections tab > More Networks > Tethering & Mobile Hotspot
  • Android OS 6 - Settings > Tethering & Mobile Hotspot
  • Android OS 7 & 8 - Settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot & Tethering

A quick and easy way to the Mobile Hotspot settings is to swipe from the top of your screen with two fingers and long press the Mobile Hotspot icon from the quick access menu.

3 Switch the Mobile Hotspot switch on

Please Note: Enabling the Mobile Hotspot will turn off Wi-Fi

Configuring the Mobile Hotspot

1 Open the Mobile Hotspot settings
2 Tap the 3 dot menu button in the top right of the screen and select Configure Mobile Hotspot

If your device doesn't have a 3 dot menu button, you might have a Configure button at the bottom of the screen, or you may need to select the menu options by tapping the menu button (left of the Home button at the bottom of the screen) to select the Configure option.

3 Change the Network Name, Password and security options.
You may also be able to enable Power Saving Mode on newer devices.
