Google Settings

In Android Nougat and Oreo, Google Settings have been incorporated into the main device settings. Smart Lock for passwords will save your passwords to your Google account, meaning that any device you use with your Google account signed in - your saved passwords will be automatically entered.

There are options within the Google Settings that allow you to control which passwords are saved and allow you to exclude certain apps from saving any passwords should you need to. See the steps below to control Smart Lock for passwords option.

1 Open Settings and scroll down to select Google
Open the Settings
2 Scroll down and select Smart Lock for Passwords
Open the Smart lock for passwords settings
3 Tap the switch next to Smart Lock for Passwords to save passwords to your Google account

The options available are:

  • Auto sign-in:  Allows you to automatically sign into apps and websites connected to the Google account. If an account is disabled, you will be prompted to confirm your credentials every time before you sign into an app or a website.
  • Saved passwords: Allows you to manage the saved passwords in the Google account. To view the saved passwords, tap Google account under the Saved passwords tab.
  • Never save: Allows you to disable saving passwords for certain apps. Tap Add app not to be saved and then from the Select app list, choose the app for which you wish to prevent from saving password.
