What is the App Icon Badge feature?

App Icon Badge

When you have a new message, email or missed call, you will be able to swipe down from the top of the screen to access the Notification Panel and see at a glance what the notification details are. When there are notifications sitting in the Notification panel, you will also see an icon in the very top of the screen, as well as an Badge on the application itself.

On Android versions 7 (Nougat) and 8 (Oreo), when you clear the notification from the top notification panel, the App Badge will also disappear. You can choose whether the App Badge displays as a number or a plain circle - see the steps below on how to access the App Badge settings.

With older Operating Systems, the App Badge will stay for as long as there is an unread notification in that particular application. If you find that you can't clear the App Badge icon in Messages or Email, Open the app and scroll down; you should find a message or email that has been left as unread. When everything in the app is "read" or opened, the App Badge will disappear.
