What network security protocol is my Smart TV compatible with?
What are Network Security Protocols?
Network security protocols refer to types of network protocols that ensure the security and integrity of data in transit over a network connection. Network security protocol is defined as the process and methodology to secure network data from any illegitimate attempt to review or extract the contents of data.
The primary tool used to protect information as it travels across a network is Cryptography.
Cryptography uses algorithms to encrypt data so that it is not readable by unauthorized users. Generally, cryptography works with a set of procedures or protocols that manage the exchange of data between devices and networks. Together, these cryptographic protocols enhance secure data transfer.
What does that mean for my Samsung TV?
Samsung Smart TVs only support the following wireless network security protocols:
● Authentication Modes: WEP, WPAPSK, WPA2PSK
● Encryption Types: WEP, TKIP, AES
Samsung Smart TVs are not able to connect to non-certified wireless routers. If the wireless router has been set to Pure High-throughput (Greenfield) 802.11n mode and the Encryption Type to WEP or TKIP, Samsung Smart TVs will not support the connection in compliance with the Wi-Fi certification specifications.
If the wireless router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), it is possible to connect to the network using PBC (Push Button Configuration) or PIN (Personal Identification Number). WPS automatically configures the SSID and WPA key settings.
