Add Free To Air Channels to a Samsung TV

Last modified : May 08. 2019

Samsung Smart TVs can receive a digital broadcast without a set-top box - the digital tuner is built in. Adding digital TV channels to watch is a pretty simple process - check out the step by step guide below.

The website lets you search for your address and show you what the signal strength is like in your area, and can show you a list of available digital channels and their frequencies – so it shouldn’t be too tricky to add in any channel you might miss with Auto Tuning.

If you do need help adding in a missing channel, please get in touch with Live Chat Australia or call 1300 362 603 (Toll free in Australia) and one of our Samsung Care experts will be able to lend a hand.

Please Note: We only use Antennas in Australia, so we can't provide a guide on adding channels with a cable provider. See the Samsung US page on Use Auto Program your TV for assistance in the US.

Scanning for available channels:

1 Make sure the Antenna Cable is securely plugged into the TV or One Connect Box. On your Samsung remote control , press the Menu button and then select Settings > Broadcasting .
Auto tuning menu

Please Note: The Broadcasting menu is only available when the Source is set to Live TV. The Broadcasting menu cannot be accessed while you watch TV using a cable box, satellite receiver or from inside any Smart Hub apps.

Press the Source button on your remote control to toggle to the TV input or on newer TVs select the Home button and select Source from the menu, then Live TV

2 Once you have selected Auto Tuning , a pop up box will appear that gives you the option to start the scan or to cancel the scan.
Start or cancel auto tune.
3 If you're scanning for Australian TV Channels select Terrestrial aerial type, and Digital Channel Type from the options on screen
4 Select Start to begin the process
5 When the scan finishes, you can select Close to finish, and all of the channels discovered will save automatically

If you find the TV will not save any channels - make sure the TV is not set to Retail or Demo Mode. Retail mode will wipe the TV settings after 5 minutes and will not save any TV channels after scanning. Follow the menu path below to check:

  • 2018 NU/Q/LS Models - Settings > General > System Manager > Usage Mode > Select Home Mode
  • 2017 M/MU/Q/LS Models - Settings > General > System Manager > Usage Mode > Select Home Mode
